Cardiovascular Involvement in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.

Unlabelled: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the supreme cause of morbidity and mortality amid patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In spite of alteration for known CAD risk factors, including hypertension & diabetes, mortality risk dynamically intensifying with worsening condition of CKD. CKD is non-communicable disease typically caused by diabetes and hypertension.

Effect of deferiprone, an oral iron chelator, in diabetic and non-diabetic glomerular disease.

Compelling experimental evidence exists for the role of oxidants and iron in glomerular disease. In preliminary studies, we confirmed increased urinary catalytic iron in patients with glomerulonephritis and diabetic nephropathy. We conducted two separate single-center, prospective, single-armed, open-labeled, proof-of-concept studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of an oral iron chelator in patients with glomerulonephritis and diabetic nephropathy.

Red blood cell mechanics.

During the 120-day life span, the erythrocyte undergoes excessive passive deformation. Cell shape, cytoplasmic viscosity and membrane deformability and stability are key features in red cell deformability. These three cellular components are described in a nutshell in this review article.

Recognition and evaluation of delirium.

Delirium (acute confusional state) is one of the most common mental disorders encountered in patients with medical illness, particularly among those who are older. It is associated with many complex underlying medical conditions and can be hard to recognise. Systematic studies and clinical trials are difficult to perform in patients with cognitive impairment; recommendations for evaluating and treating delirium are based primarily upon clinical observation and expert opinion.
