Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) followed by squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) are the most common non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC). SOX2 is a transcription factor that acts on various phases of embryonic development and its overexpression in many tumors has been reported.

Aim: This work aimed to evaluate the possible role of SOX2 in pathogenesis of non-melanoma skin cancer through its immunohistochemical assessment in BCC and SCC compared to normal skin and correlating its expression with the established prognostic factors.

Background: Nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) mainly includes basal (BCC) and squamous (SCC) cell carcinoma. Trophoblast cell-surface antigen2 (TROP2), a cell-signal transduction, is one of the tumor-related calcium signal transducer gene family. TROP2 was highly expressed in many cancers, however, its role in BCC and SCC has not yet been studied.

Background: Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is the etiologic agent of two diseases, varicella (chicken pox) and zoster (shingles). Varicella is a self- limited infection, while zoster is mainly a disease of adults. The present study was conducted to isolate VZV from clinically diagnosed children using cell cultures and compare the activity of liquorice powder extract, an alternative herbal antiviral agent, with acyclovir and interferon alpha 2a (IFN-α2a) against the isolated virus.

Objective: to investigate the role of nitric oxide (NO) in ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in a renal transplant rat model, as I/R injury is a common consequence of renal transplantation and NO has many protective properties that might protect the kidney after I/R injury.

Materials And Methods: in all, 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 350-400 g and aged 4-6 months underwent renal transplantation and received FK506 (an immunosuppressant) to overcome early acute rejection episodes. The rats were divided randomly into three groups (10 rats each): Group I, treated with FK506 (2 mg/kg body weight [bw], once daily), served as the control group; Group II, treated with FK506 2 mg/kg bw and L-arginine 300 mg/kg bw; and Group III, treated with FK506 (2 mg/kg bw) and, n-omega-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME; 50 mg/kg bw).

Introduction: The present study was designed as a randomized clinical trial to compare the immunogenicity, reactogenicity, and efficacy of tetanus toxoid (TT) and the combined tetanus and reduced diphtheria (Td) in pregnant women in four rural communities in Egypt. The pregnant women in each four villages received either TT or Td randomly. Both TT and Td vaccines are manufactured by the Egyptian Company for Biological Products & Vaccines (VACSERA) in Egypt.
