Impact of thermal denaturation on renal volume reduction after partial nephrectomy using soft coagulation hemostasis.

Partial nephrectomy has become the gold standard treatment for small renal masses. This study aimed to assess the impact of soft coagulation hemostasis on parenchymal volume reduction of the operated kidney after an open partial nephrectomy. We retrospectively reviewed 94 patients with small renal tumors who underwent open partial nephrectomy with soft-coagulation hemostasis at our institution.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis is a rare neoplastic disorder characterized by the proliferation of Langerhans cells and often accompanied by eosinophil infiltration. Charcot-Leyden crystals, composed of galectin 10, are occasionally observed in Langerhans cell histiocytosis; however, histological images are rarely reported. We herein present a patient with Langerhans cell histiocytosis with Charcot-Leyden crystals and hexagonal crystals by describing the histologic and immunohistochemical features of a lymph node.

Advantages of enhanced recovery after surgery program in robot-assisted radical cystectomy.

Radical cystectomy is a gold-standard treatment for muscle-invasive bladder cancer. We recently introduced robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with perioperative enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). The medical records of patients with bladder cancer who underwent open radical cystectomy (ORC) or RARC/ERAS at NTT Medical Center Tokyo were retrospectively reviewed to compare the surgical outcomes, hospital stay, and medical costs between groups.

Introduction: Granulomatous prostatitis is a benign inflammatory condition of the prostate that may mimic prostatic adenocarcinoma on magnetic resonance imaging findings. Even in the era of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging, the differential diagnosis of granulomatous prostatitis from malignancy remains difficult.

IgG4-related kidney disease (IgG4-RKD) is a comprehensive term for renal lesions associated with IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD), which is a recently recognized clinical entity characterized by a dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate rich in IgG4+ plasma cells with fibrosis affecting several organs. A 70-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for an abnormality at the left renal hilum detected by CT scan. Urinalysis was negative, urine cytology was rated as Class IIIa, and contrast-enhanced CT revealed left renal pelvic wall thickening without an irregular lumen and swelling of bilateral obturator lymph nodes.

Dasatinib treatment markedly increases the number of large granular lymphocytes (LGLs) in a proportion of Ph leukemia patients, which associates with a better prognosis. The lymphocytosis is predominantly observed in cytomegalovirus (CMV)-seropositive patients, yet detectable CMV reactivation exists only in a small fraction of patients. Thus, etiology of the lymphocytosis still remains unclear.

[Palliative care for patients with hematological malignancies in the Japan Baptist Medical Foundation].

The Japan Baptist Medical Foundation has established a "hospice triangle" system consisting of the hospice ward, general ward, and home hospice. Palliative care is provided for patients with various types of cancer, including hematological malignancies, in the place where they desire to receive care. From December 2010 to December 2013, 37 patients with hematological malignancies received palliative care and died at our foundation.

Here we report gastric cancer accompanied by bone marrow carcinomatosis in a patient for whom long-term chemotherapy was enabled by early pain-relief therapy. A 45-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of back pain associated with multiple spinal tumors in June 2011. Blood tests showed a trend toward disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIC) and gastric cancer was suspected as the primary lesion.

Anomalous step contrast in low energy electron microscopy (LEEM) images observed during Pb deposition on a W(110) surface is discussed. The steps are dark on the clean surface, and become bright by Pb deposition at about 200 °C.
