A modified tunnel technique to treat multiple gingival recessions: Case Series.

This case series reports a modified tunnel technique with connective tissue graft for the root coverage of multiple Miller Class I, II, and III gingival recessions. The modified approach presents an innovative suture technique to improve the stability and position of the graft. Ten patients with multiple gingival recessions (n=85 teeth) received surgical root coverage treatment.

Leishmaniasis is an anthropozoonosis transmitted by vectors, with dogs being the main domestic reservoirs. Brazil is one of the countries most affected by this disease, and it has been described in humans and dogs in every region in the country. In the northern region leishmaniasis cases in humans have been described in more than 100 municipalities in the State, including the capital, Belém.

Investigations on the adsorption, wettability and zeta potential of anionic surfactant in limestone.

The understanding of the mechanisms that affect oil production in carbonaceous reservoirs has become increasingly necessary, particularly in limestone, which mostly features oil wettability properties that diminishes petroleum recovery. The objective of this work was to investigate the ability of anionic surfactant (coconut oil derived soap) to adsorb in limestone in order to promote wettability change. The finite-bath technique was employed with changes in temperature, mass of adsorbent material (limestone), contact time and surfactant concentration.

Synthesis of thiazolidin-4-ones and thiazinan-4-ones from 1-(2-aminoethyl)pyrrolidine as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.

The present study describes the synthesis of a novel series of thiazolidin-4-one and thiazinan-4-one using 1-(2-aminoethyl)pyrrolidine as amine precursor. All compounds were synthesised by one-pot three component cyclocondensation reaction from the amine, a substituted benzaldehyde and a mercaptocarboxylic acid. The compounds were obtained in moderate to good yields and were identified and characterised by H, C, 2 D NMR and GC/MS techniques.

Complementary feeding, consumption of industrialized foods and nutritional status of children under 3 years old in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, 2016: a descriptive study.

Objective: to verify how and when complementary feeding (CF) begins, its profile, consumption of processed foods and nutritional status of children aged 1-3 years.

Methods: children enrolled at public schools in Pelotas, RS, Brazil, were evaluated; length/height-for-age and weight-for-age scores, and body mass index (BMI)/age were used, and a structured questionnaire was administered to parents/caregivers; CF was considered early when started before the age of six months; data were presented in a descriptive way.

Results: 79 children were evaluated, of whom 13 were overweight and 6 obese; 11 had high weight-for-age; mean age for beginning CF was 5.

The Role of MicroRNAs in the Osseointegration Process.

Regulation of cellular function is key to bone formation at endosseous implant surfaces. Osseointegration was "discovered" prior to the discovery of genetic regulation of osteoinduction or characterization of mesenchymal stem cells. Understanding osseointegration in cellular and molecular terms has benefited from genome-wide characterization of this healing process at endosseous implants in vivo.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is an established pathogen linked to a wide range of lymphoproliferative disorders and solid tumors. Astrocytoma is one of the most frequent brain tumors in children, adolescents, and young adults. Astrocyte proliferation usually occurs after brain tissue aggression, which may be of different types, including viral infection.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of benzothiazin-4-ones: a possible new class of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.

A series of nineteen benzothiazin-4-ones from N-(3-aminopropyl) piperidine, 4-(2-aminoethyl)morpholine or 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperidine, aliphatic or aromatic aldehyde and thiosalicylic acid, were synthesized in good yields by multicomponent one-pot reactions. The solvent was toluene and this efficient procedure afforded the desired heterocycles in 5 h. Identification and characterization were achieved by NMR and GC-MS techniques.

Use of electronic health records by child primary healthcare providers in Europe.

Background: There is limited data on the use and functionality level of electronic health records (EHRs) supporting primary child health care in Europe. Our objective was to determine European primary child healthcare providers' use of EHRs, and functionality level of the systems used.

Methods: European primary care paediatricians, paediatric subspecialists and family doctors were invited by European Academy of Paediatrics Research in Ambulatory Setting Network (EAPRASnet) country coordinators to complete a web-based survey on the use of EHRs and the systems' functionalities.

Sweet taste of saccharin induces weight gain without increasing caloric intake, not related to insulin-resistance in Wistar rats.

In a previous study, we showed that saccharin can induce weight gain when compared with sucrose in Wistar rats despite similar total caloric intake. We now question whether it could be due to the sweet taste of saccharin per se. We also aimed to address if this weight gain is associated with insulin-resistance and to increases in gut peptides such as leptin and PYY in the fasting state.

Synthesis, antifungal and cytotoxic activities of 2-aryl-3-((piperidin-1-yl)ethyl)thiazolidinones.

A series of sixteen novel thiazolidinone derivatives were synthesized from the efficient one-pot reaction of 2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethylamine, arenealdehydes and mercaptoacetic acid in good yields. Identification and characterization of products were achieved by NMR and GC-MS techniques. Progesterone is a neuroactive hormone with non-genomic effects on GABA(A) receptors (GABA(A)R). Changes in the expression of GABA(A)R subunits are related to depressive-like behaviors in rats. Detection and quantitative analysis of human herpesvirus in pilocytic astrocytoma.

We investigated the hypothetical role of human herpesviruses (HHVs) in tumour formation of the cerebellum. Thirty-five samples of pilocytic astrocytoma and 10 control samples of cerebellum from patients who died of unrelated diseases were examined. Presence of the 8 known HHVs was first studied using specific real-time quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) targeting viral DNA polymerase.
