This rigorous competition places orthopedic surgery as one of the most competitive specialties in the medical field. Although several international studies have been published regarding the factors that influence program directors when choosing their ideal applicant, the data for Saudi Arabia in that regard is absent.

Etiology of Trauma-Related Acute Compartment Syndrome of the Hand: A Systematic Review.

Hand compartment syndrome is a limb-threatening emergency. Although it is a relatively uncommon condition, early diagnosis, and urgent fasciotomy can prevent irreversible ischemia, myonecrosis, nerve dysfunction, and subsequently permanent loss of hand functions. The occurrence of hand compartment syndrome is relatively infrequent, resulting in a limited amount of literature on its causes.

Spontaneous knee dislocation: a rare and dreadful complication of septic arthritis.

Spontaneous knee dislocation without a history of trauma is a rare entity to witness. Herein, we report a case of a patient who presented to the emergency department (ED) with a history of fever, chills and vomiting associated with progressive right knee swelling, pain and impaired range of motion (ROM). Physical exam of her right knee showed symmetrical swelling with diffuse tenderness and limited ROM due to pain.

Primary Psoas Abscess Complicated by Septic Arthritis Due to Community-Acquired Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

This is a report of an unusual case of a primary psoas abscess due to community-acquired methicillin-resistant (MRSA) in an immunocompetent man. The course of the disease is expressed as septic arthritis of the hip joint with avascular necrosis. Diagnosed one month after symptoms began, the patient was treated by surgical evacuation of the abscess and appropriate antibiotics.
