Microtomographic Assessment of the Shaping Ability of the Hyflex CM and XP-endo Shaper Systems in Curved Root Canals.

Objective:  This study compared the shaping ability of the Hyflex CM and XP-endo Shaper rotary file systems in curved mesial canals of mandibular molars using micro-computed tomography.

Material And Methods:  Seventeen mesial roots of extracted first mandibular molars with two independent mesial canals were scanned before and after root canal preparation with the tested rotatory file systems. Each mesial canal from the same specimen was prepared with one of the two systems.

Development and validation of an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry method for the quantification of the antileishmanial drug paromomycin in human skin tissue.

Bioanalytical assay development and validation procedures were performed to quantify antiprotozoal drug paromomycin in human skin tissue by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. Paromomycin, an aminoglycoside drug, is administered intra-muscularly and used in the treatment of multiple clinical presentations of the neglected tropical disease leishmaniasis. It is currently studied in the treatment of post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis, a disease where the Leishmania parasites divide and reside in the skin.

Background: Physical, emotional, and social changes, including exposure to poverty, abuse, or violence, increases youth vulnerability to mental illness. These factors interfere with development, limit opportunities, and hamper achievement of a fulfilling life as adults. Addressing these issues can lead to improved outcomes at the population level and better cost-effectiveness for health services.

Airborne spores' dissemination of a swine associated Clostridioides difficile clone.

This study supports the airborne dissemination of Clostridioides difficile spores. Of the sieve impaction samples collected at a swine production unit, 66.7% were positive and all belonged to the predominantly established clone.

Paromomycin and Miltefosine Combination as an Alternative to Treat Patients With Visceral Leishmaniasis in Eastern Africa: A Randomized, Controlled, Multicountry Trial.

Background: This study aimed to determine whether paromomycin plus miltefosine (PM/MF) is noninferior to sodium stibogluconate plus paromomycin (SSG/PM) for treatment of primary visceral leishmaniasis in eastern Africa.

Methods: An open-label, phase 3, randomized, controlled trial was conducted in adult and pediatric patients at 7 sites in eastern Africa. Patients were randomly assigned to either 20 mg/kg paromomycin plus allometric dose of miltefosine (14 days), or 20 mg/kg sodium stibogluconate plus 15 mg/kg paromomycin (17 days).

Poisoning by avocado (Persea americana) has been confirmed in sheep, goats, dogs, rabbits and ostriches. The clinical signs and lesions are attributed to the acetogenin, persin. Little is known regarding the epidemiology, clinical signs, lesions and therapy caused by acetogenin-induced heart damage.

Shaping ability of new reciprocating or rotary instruments with two cross-sectional designs: An ex vivo study.

Aim: This study compared the shaping ability of four new reciprocating and rotary nickel-titanium instruments, with triangular or S-shaped cross-section, in the mesial canals of mandibular molars using micro-computed tomographic (micro-CT) evaluation.

Methodology: Twenty-four extracted mandibular molars with Vertucci's class IV configuration in the mesial root were selected for this study. The teeth were matched in fours according to anatomic similarities as revealed by micro-CT and then distributed into four groups of 12 mesial canals each according to the instrumentation technique: Reciproc Blue, R-motion, VDW.

The murine male reproductive organ at a glance: Three-dimensional insights and virtual histology using label-free light sheet microcopy.

Background: The unique anatomy of the male reproductive organ reflects its complex function from sperm maturation to their storage for months until emission. Since light microscopy in two dimensions (2d) cannot sufficiently demonstrate its complex morphology, a comprehensive visualization is required to identify pathologic alterations in its entire anatomical context.

Objectives: Aim of this study was to use three-dimensional (3d) light sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM) to visualize entire murine testes in 3d, label-free and at subcellular resolution, and to assign local autofluorescence to testicular and deferent structures.

The Effects of Hysterectomy on Urinary and Sexual Functions of Women with Cervical Cancer: A Systematic Review.

Objective:  This systematic review aims at describing the prevalence of urinary and sexual symptoms among women who underwent a hysterectomy for cervical cancer.

Methods:  A systematic search in six electronic databases was performed, in September 2019, by two researchers. The text search was limited to the investigation of prevalence or occurrence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and sexual dysfunctions in women who underwent a hysterectomy for cervical cancer.

Risk factors associated with Leptospira sp. seroprevalence in goats in Northeast of Brazil.

Goat farming is of great importance for agriculture in Northeast of Brazil, which owns more than 90 % of the national herd, however, most studies on leptospirosis in goats in this region are local surveys with unplanned sampling. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine the factors associated with the seroprevalence of leptospirosis in goats in Northeast region of Brazil. Blood samples were collected from 4121 goats from 222 herds, belonging to the states of Ceará, Paraíba, Piauí , Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe.

Secondary primary tumor mimicking osteoradionecrosis.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor rarely found in the head and neck, representing about 1% of all malignancies. The main treatment for NPC is radiation therapy, which is often given in combination with chemotherapy. However, such treatment may lead to long-term complications, including second primary tumors (SPTs) and osteoradionecrosis (ORN).

Education and training in radiation protection in Europe: an analysis from the EURAMED rocc-n-roll project.

Background: A Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis was performed to understand the status quo of education and training in radiation protection (RP) and to develop a coordinated European approach to RP training needs based on stakeholder consensus and existing activities in the field. Fourteen team members represented six European professional societies, one European voluntary organisation, two international healthcare organisations and five professions, namely: Medical Physicists; Nuclear Medicine Physicians; Radiologists; Radiation Oncologists and Radiographers. Four subgroups analysed the "Strengths", "Weaknesses", "Opportunities" and "Threats" related to E&T in RP developed under previous European Union (EU) programmes and on the Guidelines on Radiation Protection Education and Training of Medical Professionals in the EU.

Due to the scarcity of targeted treatment options, conventional cytotoxic chemotherapies frequently remain the standard of care. The increasing incidence of visceral leishmaniasis relapse in South Sudan: A retrospective analysis of field patient data from 2001-2018.

Background: Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is endemic in South Sudan, manifesting periodically in major outbreaks. Provision of treatment during endemic periods and as an emergency response is impeded by instability and conflict. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has provided health care in South Sudan since the late 1980's, including treatment for 67,000 VL patients.

Vaccine effectiveness of CoronaVac against COVID-19 among children in Brazil during the Omicron period.

Although severe COVID-19 in children is rare, they may develop multisystem inflammatory syndrome, long-COVID and downstream effects of COVID-19, including social isolation and disruption of education. Data on the effectiveness of the CoronaVac vaccine is scarce during the Omicron period. In Brazil, children between 6 to 11 years are eligible to receive the CoronaVac vaccine.

Dual Band MEMS Directional Acoustic Sensor for Near Resonance Operation.

In this paper, we report on the design and characterization of a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) directional sensor inspired by the tympana configuration of the parasitic fly . The sensor is meant to be operated at resonance and act as a natural filter for the undesirable frequency bands. By means of breaking the symmetry of a pair of coupled bridged membranes, two independent bending vibrational modes can be excited.

Objective: To compare health care indicators for adults with medical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (DM) in Brazil, in 2013 and 2019, and analyze the indicators for 2019 according to sociodemographic characteristics.

Methods: Cross-sectional study using data from the 2013 and 2019 National Health Survey. Care indicators were evaluated in people with medical diagnosis of DM.

Asthma control, social jetlag, and sleep impairment in high school adolescents.

Introduction: Social jetlag is associated with several negative health outcomes, but its impact on asthma control has not been previously investigated. Although impaired sleep is common in asthma, studies on the relationship between sleep quality, social jetlag and asthma control in adolescents are scarce.

In RG additional angular projections are recorded typically by performing multiple rotations. Consequently, the projections are sorted according to the expansion state of the chest and those sets are then reconstructed separately.
