Lipid metabolism dysregulation is associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Specific oxidized lipids are recognized CVD biomarkers involved in all stages of atherosclerosis, including foam cell formation. Moderate coffee intake is positively associated with cardiovascular health.

The use of materials informatics methods on large data that originate in experiments or/and multiscale modeling simulations may accelerate materials' discovery or develop new understanding of materials' behavior. In this fast-growing field, we focus on reviewing advances at the intersection of data science with mechanical deformation simulations and experiments, with a particular focus on studies of metals and alloys.

COVID-19 has caused a certain proportion of patients to be hospitalized in intensive care units (ICU) and may cause musculoskeletal and neurological deficits following intubation and mechanical ventilation. The aim of this study was to quantify and describe the presence of shoulder pain in patients released from hospitals after suffering COVID-19. Patients with positive Apley tests were sent to a physiatrist for a clinical evaluation, ultrasound and electromyography (EMG).

These conditions are associated with increased intestinal permeability as an early etiological event. The aim of this study was to examine the consequences of deficient activity of the PTPN2 gene product, T cell protein tyrosine phosphatase (TCPTP), on intestinal barrier function and tight junction organization in vivo and in vitro.

This study aimed to: (1) demonstrate that c.2149-1G>A is a founder pathogenic variant, (2) describe the phenotype and clinical characteristics of mutation carriers and (3) compare these patients with those with the most frequent pathogenic HCM variants: p.

Live imaging studies in CD4 T cells have captured the rapid recruitment of the viral structural protein Gag to VSs. We explored the role of endocytic trafficking of Env initiated by a membrane proximal tyrosine motif during HIV transfer into target cells and examined the factors that allow Gag and Env to be transferred together across the synapse.

Consequently, only one in three DLB cases is diagnosed correctly. Platelets, previously related to neurodegeneration, contain microRNAs (miRNAs) whose analysis may provide disease biomarkers.

No approved treatments or vaccines against this virus are available. We show that a combined treatment with 2 monoclonal antibodies protected Syrian hamsters when administered at midstage or late-stage disease.

Tumours that harbour NTRK fusions are found in both adults and children and are either rare tumours with common NTRK fusions that may be diagnostic, or more common tumours with rare NTRK fusions. To assess the currently available evidence, 3key Spanish medical societies (the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), the Spanish Society of Pathology (SEAP) and the Spanish Society of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (SEHOP) have brought together a group of experts to develop a consensus document that includes guidelines on the diagnostic, clinical and therapeutic aspects of NTRK-fusion tumours.

Methods: We cross-analyzed data from methylome assessments and restoration of gene expression through microarray expression in a panel of four paired cisplatin-sensitive/cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cell lines, along with publicly available clinical data from selected individuals representing the state of chemoresistance. We validated the methylation state and expression levels of candidate genes in each cellular phenotype through Sanger sequencing and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, respectively.
Background: The use of low-dose aspirin (LDA) and heparin has improved pregnancy outcomes in women with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). However, 20-30% still have adverse outcomes despite treatment. Recent retrospective studies showed a beneficial effect of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in APS due to its anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antithrombotic properties.

Since these toxins may be present simultaneously during STEC infections, the purpose of this work was to study the co-action of Stx2 and SubAB. Stx2 + SubAB was assayed in vitro on monocultures and cocultures of human glomerular endothelial cells (HGEC) with a human proximal tubular epithelial cell line (HK-2) and in vivo in mice after weaning.

The present study aimed to compare the antral follicle count (AFC), oocyte production and embryonic developmental competence of young versus long-lived and senescent Bos indicus beef cows. Nellore cows (Bos indicus) were classified into three groups according to age: young (4-9 years, n = 10), long-lived (14-17 years, n = 10) and senescent (17-23 years, n = 10).

Nutritional-relevance of this pathway as well as its detailed role in vertebrate physiology, remain largely unknown. Since recent GWAS data and experimental studies associated RXR-mediated signaling with depression, we explored here the relevance of RXR and vitamin A5/X-mediated signaling in the control of stress adaptation and depressive-like behaviors in mice.

Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of SRS for OGMs.
Methods: From 20 institutions participating in the International Radiosurgery Research Foundation, we pooled patients who underwent SRS for histologically confirmed or radiologically suspected WHO grade I OGMs and were followed for 6 mo or more after the SRS.
Finding angiogenic prognostic markers in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer is still an unmet medical need. We explored a set of genetic variants in the VEGF-pathway as potential biomarkers to predict clinical outcomes of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer treated with chemotherapy plus bevacizumab. We prospectively analyzed the relationship between VEGF-pathway components with both pathological and prognostic variables in response to chemotherapy plus bevacizumab in 168 patients with non-squamous non-small-cell lung cancer.

Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) is a cytosolic, homotetrameric enzyme that performs a variety of functions in plants. Among them, it is primarily responsible for CO fixation in the C photosynthesis pathway (C-PEPC).

Background: Cytology specimens are often used for biomarker testing in the setting of neoplasia. On occasion, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) cell blocks unfortunately may not yield sufficient material for testing. Recent studies have suggested that residual supernatant fluid from cell block preparation is a valuable source of DNA: both cellular and cell-free DNA (cfDNA).

The natural history of these conditions is not well defined, particularly in patients with congenital or early onset who arguably present with the highest disease burden. Thus the definition of natural history endpoints along with clinically revelant outcome measures is essential to establishing both clinical care planning and clinical trial readiness for this patient group.
