Veterinary Student Skills Learned at an Access to Care Clinic: Beyond Medicine and Surgery.

Methods: To address this, here we developed two vaccine candidates, namely (i) DNA-CoV2-TMEP, expressing the multiepitopic CoV2-TMEP protein containing immunodominant and conserved T cell regions from SARS-CoV-2 structural proteins, and (ii) MVA-CoV2-B2AT, encoding a bi-cistronic multiepitopic construct that combines conserved B and T cell overlapping regions from SARS-CoV-2 structural proteins.

Results: Both candidates were assessed in vitro and in vivo demonstrating their ability to induce robust immune responses.

While primary-care clinical rotations are well established and have been incorporated into veterinary colleges over the past 50 years, standardization of teaching small animal primary care across veterinary colleges is unknown. The purpose of this study was to explore and document variations and similarities in the delivery of small animal primary-care clinical education curricula among member programs of the American Association of Veterinary Medicine Colleges (AAVMC). A comprehensive, 114-question online survey was conducted, comprising seven sections, including Rotation Logistics; House Officers; Procedures Performed; Rounds; Spectrum of Care; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Assessment; Leadership Roles; and Research.

Poor sleep health has been previously documented in veterinary medical students. However, it is not known how universal or widespread this problem is. This study evaluated Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) scores to measure sleep health among students at seven colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States (US).

Long-term treatment outcomes of complicated acute diverticulitis in immunocompromised patients.

Purpose: The main aim of this study was to determine the short- and long-term outcomes of the non-operative management of acute left-sided complicated diverticulitis (ALCD) in severely immunocompromised patients (IMS group) and compare them with immunocompetent patients (IC group). The secondary aim was to assess the necessity of an elective surgery following a successful prior non-operative management in the IMS group after a non-operative management of the first episode of ALCD.

Methods: Patients presented with their first episode of ALCD between 2012 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed.

Community care is a creative way of thinking about health care that mobilizes resources within a community and consists of four core principles: recognition of the urgency of access-to-care for the veterinary profession, collaboration within community networks, family-centered health care, and redefining the gold standard of care. The AAHA Community Care Guidelines for Small Animal Practice offer strategies to help busy veterinary practitioners increase access to care within their practice and community by optimizing collaborative networks. While these guidelines do not claim to provide exhaustive solutions to access-to-care issues, they propose a starting point from which private practices can explore and implement workable solutions for their community and their practice.

Perceptions of healthcare workers on linkage between depression and hypertension in northern Ghana: a qualitative study.

Hypertension and depression are increasingly common noncommunicable diseases in Ghana and worldwide, yet both are poorly controlled. We sought to understand how healthcare workers in rural Ghana conceptualize the interaction between hypertension and depression, and how care for these two conditions might best be integrated. We conducted a qualitative descriptive study involving in-depth interviews with 34 healthcare workers in the Kassena-Nankana districts of the Upper East Region of Ghana.

Recently, there has been a huge increase in the different ways to manufacture polymer-based sensors. Methods like additive manufacturing, microfluidic preparation, and brush painting are just a few examples of new approaches designed to improve sensor features like self-healing, higher sensitivity, reduced drift over time, and lower hysteresis. That being said, we believe there is still a lot of potential to boost the performance of current sensors by applying modeling, classification, and machine learning techniques.

TNBC-DX genomic test in early-stage triple-negative breast cancer treated with neoadjuvant taxane-based therapy.

Background: Identification of biomarkers to optimize treatment strategies for early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is crucial. This study presents the development and validation of TNBC-DX, a novel test aimed at predicting both short- and long-term outcomes in early-stage TNBC. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between TNBC-DX and efficacy outcomes [pathologic complete response (pCR), distant disease-free survival (DDFS) or event-free survival (EFS), and overall survival (OS)] in the validation cohorts.

The antimicrobial properties of a series of anionic bis(carbene) silver complexes Na[Ag(NHC)] were investigated (- and , where NHC is a 2,2'-(imidazol-2-ylidene)dicarboxylate-type -heterocyclic carbene). The complexes were synthesized by the interaction of imidazolium dicarboxylate compounds with silver oxide in the presence of aqueous sodium hydroxide. Complexes , were characterized analytically and spectroscopically, and the ligand precursor and complexes and were structurally identified by X-ray diffraction methods.

A General Hydrotrifluoromethylation of Unactivated Olefins Enabled by Voltage-Gated Electrosynthesis.

Here we present the first successful hydrotrifluoromethylation of unactivated olefins under electrochemical conditions. Commercially available trifluoromethyl thianthrenium salt (TT-CFBF , E=-0.85 V vs Fc/Fc) undergoes electrochemical reduction to generate CF radicals which add to olefins with exclusive chemoselectivity.

Four redox couples, [(BIP)AlR], have been fully characterized through structural, spectroscopic, electrochemical and computational techniques.

Background: Cancer is the fourth leading cause of death in adolescents and young adults (AYA) worldwide. Although successful treatment of cancer in AYA has increased in recent years in most of the world, this is not true for many low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) where over 80% of all AYA live. This study investigated the needs of AYA with cancer in parts of Latin America (LATAM) through the perspectives of non-physician health care providers and partners.
