Diabetes mellitus (DM) causes numerous systemic diseases in animals and humans. This may also lead to reproductive problems among individuals of reproductive age. Detrimental effects such as apoptosis in ovarian granulosa cells, degradation of communication proteins, decreased oocyte quality, delayed meiotic maturation, and atrophy are among the increasing evidence that chronic hyperglycemia causes reproductive problems.

This research investigated the effects of sciatic nerve transection and diabetes on the hippocampus, and the protective effects of Garcinia kola and curcumin. Thirty-five adults male Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups: a control group (Cont), a transected group (Sham group), a transected + diabetes mellitus group (DM), a transected + diabetes mellitus + Garcinia kola group (DM + GK), and a transected + DM + curcumin group (DM + Cur), each containing seven animals. The experimental diabetes model was created with the intraperitoneal injection of a single dose of streptozotocin.

Objective: Reuse of medical devices poses risks concerning technical issues and patient safety. In this study, we aimed to examine the structural changes in catheters that occur due to the reuse with the aid of electron microscopy.

Materials And Methods: The effects of hydrogen peroxide (HP) and ethylene oxide (EO) sterilization on four percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) catheters and control PTCA catheters were examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM).

Hypertension is a common public health issue, and its incidene increases parallel to age. It is inevitable that certain occupational conditions may pose risks for high blood pressure or cause difficulties in managing blood pressure. Working under specific circumstances may compromise the safety of individuals with hypertension and potentially others.

Background: Lungs are the target organs most affected by ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, which is exacerbated when hemorrhagic shock occurs. Suppressing various proinflammatory cytokines, inflammation and oxidation that initiate and aggravate lung damage with various drugs or methods provides significant benefits in preventing lung damage.

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the protective effect of clotrimazole (CLT), an antimycotic drug, on lung injury and systemic inflammatory response in rats by creating an experimental model of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (RAAA).

Objective: To test the protective effects of Garcinia kola and curcumin on the ganglion tissues of diabetic rats following the use of autologous vein graft in peripheral nerve transection injury.

Methods: The sciatic nerve on the right side was transected, and anastomosis was performed between the proximal and distal ends using an autologous vein graft. Curcumin and Garcinia kola seed extract were administered daily by oral gavage.

Study Objective: To investigate the efficacy of the perfusion index in assessing block success in pediatric patients undergoing elective supracondylar fracture repair surgery.

Methods: It was a retrospective study in a tertiary-care center. Twenty-eight pediatric supracondylar humerus fracture patients who underwent elective surgery for fracture repair were evaluated.

Background: Due to children and adolescents' widespread use of electronic devices, researchers have focused on pre-and early postnatal electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure. However, little is known about the effects of EMF exposure on the optic nerve. The aim of study was to investigate the changes occurring in the optic nerve and the protective effects of melatonin (mel) and omega 3 (ω-3) in rats.

Momordica charantia (MC) is a traditional plant widely used since ancient times for wound healing. This study evaluated its potential effects on tendon healing. Adult male Wistar albino rats (n = 32, 8 rats in each group) were anesthetized, and their Achilles tendons were prepared for surgical procedures.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Soft tissue sarcomas of the popliteal fossa are extremely rare tumors of mesenchymal origin accounting for 3%-5% of all extremity sarcomas. However, data regarding the tumor type, neurovascular involvement, and administration of radiation therapy before or after resection are limited. This study aimed to report on popliteal fossa sarcomas analyzing data from two institutions based on a relatively large patient sample.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the functional and radiographical outcomes of reconstruction of acute unstable acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocation using Hook Plate (HP) versus Suture Endobutton (SE) fixation techniques.

Methods: Forty-six consecutive patients with grade III to V ACJ dislocation according to Rockwood classification who underwent either HP or SE fixation in the period between January 2017 and June 2020 were evaluated. The treatment modalities were divided into either HP or SE fixation.

Recombinant protein-based SARS-CoV-2 vaccines are needed to fill the vaccine equity gap. Because protein-subunit based vaccines are easier and cheaper to produce and do not require special storage/transportation conditions, they are suitable for low-/middle-income countries. Here, we report our vaccine development studies with the receptor binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta Plus strain (RBD-DP) which caused increased hospitalizations compared to other variants.

Peripheral nerve injury is common and negatively affects an individual's quality of life. Drugs used for peripheral nerve regeneration should aim to eliminate symptoms such as neuropathic pain and have therapeutic effects. In recent studies, pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) has been considered an essential therapeutic agent because of its potential neuroprotective properties.

The current study concentrated on designing soy protein (SP)-based natural hydrogels in the presence of locust bean gum (LBG). For this, the gums were recovered from the kernel of the relevant plant and incorporated into SP gel models. Three more hydrogels were fabricated using commercial carbohydrates (gum Arabic (GA), maltodextrin (MD), and pectin (PC)) to decipher exactly the ability of LBG in these models.

Background: To evaluate the accuracy of the diagnosis of peri-implant bone defects' severities in digital panoramic radiographs obtained at different tube voltage and/or tube current settings.

Material And Methods: Two different sizes of peri-implant bone defects (type 1 and type 2) were prepared after the implants were inserted into 29 bovine rib blocks. Digital panoramic radiographs were obtained at eight different tube voltage and/or tube current settings for all rib blocks.

Background: Ankle arteriovenous fistulas are the rarest vascular access type among lower extremity fistulas for hemodialysis patients with end-stage renal disease. Here, we present a case of a tibial-saphenous fistula that remained open for a long time despite a recurrent anastomotic aneurysm. A 43-year-old female patient who had been undergoing hemodialysis via a right femoral tunnel catheter for six months was referred for recurrent catheter infection and a 4 cm pulsatile mass in the anterior aspect of the ankle.

Background: Aortoenteric fistula (AEF) is a rare medical emergency, but one of the most difficult and threatening complications of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding.

Methods: A retrospective observational study was performed on patients hospitalised with GI bleeding and a definitive AEF diagnosis. We collected operative reports and medical records of patients operated on with an AEF diagnosis.

Kounis syndrome (KS) is an acute coronary syndrome that occurs with allergic, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic, or anaphylactoid reactions associated with mast cell activation, and entails significant morbidity and mortality risks. We present four cases of acute coronary syndrome developing after insect bites, chemotherapy, and coronary stent implantation. Two patients were lost due to anaphylactic shock-related multiorgan failures and sudden cardiac death.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the surgical technique and functional outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation for scapular fractures, particularly Ideberg type four and five.
  • Ten patients from three orthopedic centers were examined retrospectively, using the Judet approach, with follow-ups of at least 2 years to assess post-operative outcomes.
  • Results showed that the repair method yielded satisfactory functional outcomes, though two patients experienced suprascapular nerve injuries during surgery, highlighting potential complications with less invasive techniques.
