Treatment Impact on the Long-Term Ocular Outcomes in Behçet's-Related Uveitis.

Purpose: To examine the demographic characteristics, findings and complication rates in patients with Behçet's uveitis (BU) and to investigate the effect of early biological therapy on the development of complications.

Methods: Medical records of 94 patients with BU were retrospectively reviewed. Demographic data, ocular findings and complications at presentation, complications during follow-up, and treatments received during follow-up were analyzed.

Comparison of death anxiety symptoms between generalized anxiety disorder and somatization disorder in geriatric patients attending a psychiatric outpatient clinic for the first time.

Somatic complaints are among the important complaints frequently seen in Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD). Death anxiety has also increased significantly with the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in the elderly population. In this study, we compared the difference of the death anxiety level among patients with GAD, SSD and healthy controls.

Evaluation of subarcuate canal on CT images in the perspective of clinical basis.

Objectives: The aim of our study to contribute to the field of morphometrics by including measurements of the SAC and SAF and their distances from surrounding structures, particularly for surgeons involved in retrosigmoid approach for internal acoustic meatus tumor surgery and cerebellopontine angle surgery. Although there is limited information in the literature regarding the role of the subarcuate fossa (SAF) and subarcuate canal (SAC), it has been suggested that the SAC may be a potential pathway for infection from the middle ear to the posterior cranial fossa, and cerebellar abscesses may have this origin.

Background: The scarcity of concrete data between loneliness and frailty was found and to fill this gap, the present study aimed to examine the relationship between frailty and loneliness in elderly individuals. The study was conducted to determine the relationship between loneliness and frailty in individuals aged 65 and over.

Method: The study had a cross-sectional descriptive correlational design.

Investigation of medical faculty students' views on cadaver and cadaver teaching in anatomy.

Purpose: Cadaver education in anatomy is one of the cornerstones of medical school education. The primary purpose of this study is to determine the importance of cadaver education from the students' point of view by examining the effect of cadaver education on learning the anatomy course. In this study, the perspectives of second-term medical students who received or did not receive anatomy education with cadavers, on cadavers and on anatomy education with cadavers were investigated.

Human well-being versus ecological footprint in MENA countries: A trade-off?

How to improve environmental quality and achieve human development remains major sustainability issues, particularly in the MENA region (the Middle East and North Africa). Most of the empirical literature fails to consider human well-being and environmental quality together although these concepts are fundamentally similar in their concern for distributive justice. This inquiry uses panel data for 13 MENA countries over the period 1990-2016 to examine the association between human development and ecological footprint and test whether trade-off nexus holds between these two sustainability-based indicators.

Effects of Pain and Sleep Quality on Falls Among Nursing Home Residents in Turkey.

The current study was conducted to detect the incidence of falls among individuals in nursing homes, as well as the impact of pain and sleep quality on falls. The sample for this cross-sectional study comprised 291 older adults. Pain was assessed using the Geriatric Pain Measure and insomnia was assessed using the Insomnia Severity Index.

The Effect of Breast Cancer Fatalism on Breast Cancer Awareness Among Turkish Women.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of breast cancer fatalism and other factors on breast cancer awareness among Turkish women. This cross-sectional and comparative descriptive study was conducted with 894 women. Data were collected by Personal Information Form, Powe Fatalism Inventory and Champion's Health Belief Model Scale.

Extending Myringotomy Patency with Topical Everolimus in Rats.

Background: Everolimus is an immunosuppressant agent that has antiproliferative properties and negative effects on wound healing. The effect of everolimus use to delay the closure time of myringotomy is not known.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of topical everolimus on myringotomy patency and to investigate its histopathologic effects on the tympanic membrane.

Vocal fold paresis accompanying vocal fold polyps.

The aim of this study was to evaluate patients with vocal fold polyps using laryngeal electromyography (LEMG) for the presence of vocal fold paresis and to compare transnasal fiberoptic and rigid stroboscopic findings between polyp patients with normal LEMG and with vocal fold paresis. Thirty-five patients with a vocal fold polyp underwent transnasal fiberoptic laryngoscopy, rigid laryngostroboscopy, and LEMG. The findings were compared between the LEMG-confirmed vocal fold paresis patients and the normal LEMG patients.

Videolaryngostroboscopy versus microlaryngoscopy for the diagnosis of benign vocal cord lesions: a prospective clinical study.

The aim of this study is to prospectively compare rigid videolaryngostroboscopy with microlaryngoscopy for the diagnosis of benign vocal cord lesions. Eighty-five adult patients with benign vocal cord lesions were evaluated with videolaryngostroboscopy and later underwent microlaryngoscopy. During microlaryngoscopy, systematic examination of the glottis was conducted, including careful inspection and meticulous palpation of the vocal cords from anterior commissure to arytenoids.

Currently, filling, smoothing, or recontouring the face through the use of injectable fillers is one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery. Because these materials promise a more youthful appearance without anesthesia in a noninvasive way, various fillers have been used widely in different parts of the world. However, most of these fillers have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and their applications might cause unpleasant disfiguring complications.

Synthesis and evaluation of antimicrobial and anticonvulsant activities of some new 3-[2- (5-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl/4-carbethoxymethylthiazol-2-yl) imino-4-thiazolidinon-5-ylidene]-5-substituted/nonsubstituted 1H-indole-2-ones and investigation of their structure-activity relationships.

In the present study, 20 new compounds having 3-[2-(5-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl) imino-4-thiazolidinon-5-ylidene]-5-substituted/nonsubstituted 1H-indole-2-one (I-XII) and 3-[2-(4-carbethoxymethylthiazol-2-yl)imino-4-thiazoldinon-5-ylidenel-5-substituted/nonsubstituted IH-indole-2-one (XIII-XX) systems were synthesized. The structures were confirmed by spectral methods (UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 13C-DEPT (135), electron impact mass spectrometry) and elemental analysis. All compounds were tested for in vitro antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228, Escherichia coli ATCC 8739, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 4352, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 1539, Salmonella typhi, Shigella flexneri, Proteus mirabilis ATCC 14153, Candida albicans ATCC 10231, Microsporum gypseum (NCPF-580), Microsporum canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Trichophyton rubrum and some of them were found to be active.

Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of [2-[2-(N, N-disubstituted thiocarbamoyl-sulfanyl)-acylamino] thiazol-4-yl]acetic acid ethyl esters.

[2-[2-(N, N-Disubstituted thiocarbamoyl-sulfanyl)acylamino ]thiazol-4-yl]acetic acid ethyl esters (3a-x) were synthesized by the reaction of potassium salts of N, N-disubstituted dithiocarbamoic acids with [2-(2-chloroalkanoyl)amino-thiazol-4-yl]acetic acid ethyl esters. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses, UV, IR, (1)H-NMR, and EI mass spectral data. The antimicrobial activities of all the compounds were investigated by microbroth dilution technique using Mueller-Hinton broth and Mueller-Hinton agar.

Somatosensory evoked potentials and EEG findings in siblings of juvenile myoclonic epilepsy patients.
