Effect of Radiotherapy on the Type and Timing of Breast Reconstruction After Mastectomy in Breast Cancer Patients.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer type among women according to the World Health Organization data. While breast-conserving surgery has been increasingly performed in patients with early-stage breast cancer, unilateral or bilateral mastectomy is still performed in many patients. With the changes in mastectomy techniques and the development of breast reconstruction techniques over the years, today the aim of breast reconstruction is to create breast tissue in a shape and symmetry that will correct the anatomical defect that occurs after mastectomy, without affecting the patient's oncological treatment.

The effect of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation on speech performance: a prospective clinical and tractography study.

Background: Speech changes significantly impact the quality of life for Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) of the Subthalamic Nucleus (STN) is a standard treatment for advanced PD, but its effects on speech remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between STN-DBS and speech changes in PD patients using comprehensive clinical assessments and tractography.

Utility of diffusion tensor imaging and generalized q-sampling imaging for predicting short-term clinical effect of deep brain stimulation in Parkinson's disease.

Purpose: To assess whether diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and generalized q-sampling imaging (GQI) metrics could preoperatively predict the clinical outcome of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, from September 2021 to March 2023, preoperative DTI and GQI examinations of 44 patients who underwent DBS surgery, were analyzed. To evaluate motor functions, the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) during on- and off-medication and Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) scales were used before and three months after DBS surgery.

Microsurgical anatomy of the isthmic cingulum: a new white matter crossroad and neurosurgical implications in the posteromedial interhemispheric approaches and the glioma invasion patterns.

The dichotomy of the cingulum bundle into the dorsal supracallosal and ventral parahippocampal parts is widely accepted; however, the retrosplenial component with its multiple alternative connections has not been revealed. The aim of this study was to delineate the microsurgical anatomy of a connectionally transition zone, the isthmic cingulum, in relation to the posteromedial interhemispheric access to the atrium and discuss the relevant patterns of glioma invasion on the basis of its fiber connections. White matter (WM) fibers were dissected layer by layer in a medial-to-lateral, lateral-to-medial, and posterior-to-anterior fashion.

Effects of subepineural hyaluronic acid injection on nerve recovery in a rat sciatic nerve defect model.

Background: Maintenance of epineural integrity is very important for nerve healing. Reports on the use of substances consid-ered to have positive effects on nerve healing in experimental nerve defect models are increasing. The present study assessed the effects of sub-epineural hyaluronic acid injection in a rat sciatic nerve defect model that was created while maintaining epineural integrity.

Nasal Anthropometric Analysis in Turkish Rhinoplasty Patients.

This study aimed to determine the mean values of the nasal anthropometric measurements through 2-dimensional photogrammetry in for rhinoplasty patients. The study group included 72 healthy individuals, 36 men, and 36 women. The patients were aged 18 to 42 years.

Comparison of Electrophysiological and Radiological Subthalamic Nucleus Length and Volume.

Aim: To investigate the surgical value of MER recordings and improve surgical technique by demonstrating the consistency between preoperative radiological STN volume and intraoperative neurophysiological STN length.

Material And Methods: Sixty-one patients with PD were enrolled. The volumes of the STN were measured using magnetic resonance images 3-dimensional volume reconstructions of stereotactic magnetic resonance images.

Reconstruction of soft tissue defects around the Achilles region with distally based extended peroneal artery perforator flap.

Introduction: Achilles tendon rupture and soft tissue infections with wound dehiscence and tendon exposure following the tendon repair are not infrequent. Various procedures have been described for the reconstruction of soft tissue defects at the Achilles tendon region, yet there is lack of consensus on the ideal method. In this article we report our experience using the distally based peroneal artery perforator flap in reconstruction of combined defects of the Achilles tendon and overlying soft tissue.

Background: Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) and implant-based immediate breast reconstruction are becoming preferred options with improved outcomes. However, reconstruction in patients with large and ptotic breasts is challenging. When mastectomy and skin reduction are combined in a single-staged procedure, the vasculature of the skin is disturbed leading to increased complication rates.

The Role of the Subthalamic Nucleus in Inhibitory Control of Oculomotor Behavior in Parkinson's Disease.

Inhibiting inappropriate actions in a context is an important part of the human cognitive repertoire, and deficiencies in this ability are common in neurological and psychiatric disorders. An anti-saccade is a simple oculomotor task that tests this ability by requiring inhibition of saccades to peripheral targets (pro-saccade) and producing voluntary eye movements toward the mirror position (anti-saccades). Previous studies provide evidence for a possible contribution from the basal ganglia in anti-saccade behavior, but the precise role of different components is still unclear.

Salvage local fasciocutaneous flap for T-junction tissue defect in inverted T-scar reduction mammoplasty.

Macromastia can cause serious psychological problems in women as well as psychosocial problems due to esthetic appearances. For this reason, proper technique in breast reduction surgery yields a dramatic physical and psychological improvement for the patient. Inverted T-scar breast reduction using the inferior pedicle technique is the most commonly used breast reduction method.

Factors Associated With Complications in Immediate Breast Reconstruction in 1 Stage With Completely Submuscular Implants.

Background: Immediate breast reconstruction in 1 stage using permanent implants is gaining popularity and can be performed with or without the use of acellular dermal matrices. This study aimed to investigate the results of breast implants placed submuscularly without acellular dermal matrix and assess the factors affecting surgical complications.

Methods: From November 2009 to March 2018, 138 patients underwent immediate breast reconstruction with permanent submuscular implants after concomitant skin-sparing or nipple-sparing mastectomies in a single institution.

Mesolimbic connectivity signatures of impulsivity and BMI in early adolescence.

Across age groups, differences in connectivity of the mesolimbic and the prefrontal cortex co-vary with trait impulsivity and sensation-seeking. Impulsivity and sensation-seeking are also known to increase during early adolescence as maturation of subcortical structures outpaces that of the prefrontal cortex. While an imbalance between the striatum and prefrontal cortex is considered a normal developmental process, higher levels of adolescent impulsivity and sensation-seeking are associated with an increased risk for diverse problems, including obesity.

Background: Extensive scalp defects caused by various etiologies often require free-tissue transfer. We aimed to review our experience in the reconstruction of extensive scalp defects with free anterolateral flaps.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on all patients with extensive scalp defects that were reconstructed with free anterolateral thigh flaps from November 2007 to April 2015.

Risk Factor Analysis for Survival of Becker-Type Expander in Immediate Breast Reconstruction.

Background: Breast reconstruction with a Becker-type expander is a common technique following mastectomy. However, inconsistency remains in the literature regarding risk factors for the survival of a Becker-type expander following immediate breast reconstruction. This study's purpose is to investigate possible risk factors for the Becker-type expander survival and to evaluate the complications related to expander removal following immediate breast reconstruction.

A Simple Flap Design for the Salvage of Immediate Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction.

Background: Breast reconstruction with implants is a real challenge in patients with large breast volume. Skin-reducing inverted-T mastectomy is the best solution for these patients. Delayed wound healing or necrosis at the T-junction area can be seen in this procedure, although it may also lead to severe conditions such as the exposure and loss of implant.

Impaired aortic elastic properties in young females with migraine.

Unlabelled: Migraine is a common health problem affecting women more commonly. It has been associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular events. In this study, we investigated whether aortic elastic properties is altered in migraineurs with low cardiovascular risk compared with healthy controls, in order to elicit further evidence on tentative association between migraine and increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy associated intracranial hypertension.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is an acquired immune-mediated demyelinating neuropathy. In this report, we detail the course of a 58-year-old male patient who had headache and double vision followed by progressive paresthesia and difficulty in walking. The patient had bilateral papilledema and mild leg weakness, absent ankle jerks and loss of sensation in distal parts of his lower and upper extremities.
