Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy: a cross-sectional study of community pharmacists in the UK.

Objectives: To assess the content and frequency of advice community pharmacists (CPs) provide to pregnant women with nausea and vomiting, their confidence in providing advice, and their knowledge of the safety of medication used to manage the condition.

Methods: An online questionnaire of closed- and open-ended questions was distributed to CPs in the UK in May 2023. Closed-ended questions were analysed quantitatively, and conventional content analysis was utilised for open-ended responses.

The Prevalence of Sarcopenia in Patients with Solid Tumors Differs Across Regions: A Systematic Review.

The purpose of the meta-analysis was to compare the prevalence of sarcopenia on staging computed tomography (CT) in patients with solid tumors in different world regions. MEDLINE, Embase, and SCOPUS literature databases were screened for prevalence of sarcopenia in oncologic patients up to December 2022. Two hundred eighty studies met the inclusion criteria.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin and systemic disease that is associated with considerable discomfort and a significant reduction in the quality of life. Despite a significantly increased understanding of the disease, the diagnosis is still delayed for many years. Delayed patient access to suitable treatment often leads to disease progression with increased surgical interventions and the occurrence of possible comorbidities.

Actinic keratosis (AK) are common lesions in light-skinned individuals that can potentially progress to cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). Both conditions may be associated with significant morbidity and constitute a major disease burden, especially among the elderly. To establish an evidence-based framework for clinical decision making, the guideline "actinic keratosis and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma" was updated and expanded by the topics cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in situ (Bowen's disease) and actinic cheilitis.

'People still want a face and that's where we can fill in': a qualitative study of community pharmacists' experiences of providing healthcare advice about preconception and pregnancy.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore community pharmacists' practices and attitudes towards the provision of healthcare advice regarding preconception and pregnancy.

Methods: A qualitative focus group study was conducted virtually with community pharmacists around urban areas of London in October 2021. A topic guide was utilised to cover pharmacy practice, barriers and confidence in counselling women, education and training and thoughts on how to improve preconception and pregnancy health services.

Background: Twenty percent of women in the UK develop perinatal mental health (PMH) problems, which have widespread effects on maternal and child health. Community pharmacists are ideally placed to identify PMH problems and refer to other trained healthcare professionals.

Objective: This study explored community pharmacists' attitudes, current counselling practices, and barriers to providing mental health advice to perinatal women.

Long-Term Management of Advanced Basal Cell Carcinoma: Current Challenges and Future Perspectives.

The first-line therapy for locally advanced basal cell carcinoma (laBCC) is Hedgehog pathway inhibitors (HHIs), as they achieve good efficacy and duration of response. However, toxicity in the course of long-term treatment may lead to a decrease in the quality of life, and consequently to interruption or even discontinuation of therapy. As HHI therapy is a balancing act between effectiveness, adverse events, quality of life, and adherence, numerous successful treatment strategies have evolved, such as dose reduction and dose interruptions with on-off treatment schedules or interruptions with re-challenge after progression.

Study protocol to explore the social effects of environmental exposure and lifestyle behaviours on pregnancy outcome: an overview of cohort of pregnant women study.

Introduction: A growing number of international studies have highlighted the adverse consequences of lived experience in the first thousand days of pregnancy and early life on the probability of stillbirth, child mortality, inadequate growth and healthy development during both childhood and adulthood. The lived experience of the fetus inside the womb and at the birth is strongly related to both maternal health during pregnancy and maternal exposure to a set of environmental factors known as 'exposome' characteristics, which include environmental exposure, health behaviours, living conditions, neighbourhood characteristics and socioeconomic profile. The aim of our project is to explore the relationships between exposome characteristics and the health status of pregnant women and their newborns.

Demographic and psychological predictors of community pharmacists' cancer-related conversations with patients: a cross-sectional analysis and survey study.

Background: There is increasing interest in the role of community pharmacy in the early diagnosis and prevention of cancer. This study set out to examine how often community pharmacists (CPs) encourage patients to spot or respond to potential signs and symptoms of cancer, and how often they help people to make an informed decision about taking part in bowel cancer screening.

Methods: Data from 400 UK CPs, who completed the 2018 Cancer Research UK Healthcare Professional Tracker survey, were analysed.

COVID-19's impact on neglected pharmaceutical staff: wake-up call for needed research.

Discussion of the necessity of the compulsory vaccination of UK patient-facing care workers as an employment conditionality has deflected from the initial and ongoing impact of Coronavirus disease on relatively neglected occupational groups themselves, including community pharmacists. This commentary highlights the relative lack of research investigating the mental health and wellbeing impact of the pandemic on this occupational group in England and urges further study of their needs and experiences to inform evidence-based supportive psychological interventions.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of community pharmacist-led interventions which aimed to improve health outcomes of preconception and pregnant women. A systematic review of the literature, consistent with PRISMA guidelines, was performed.

Background & Aims: The purpose of this meta-analysis was to summarize the published data regarding associations between occurrence of severe treatment related toxicity and low skeletal muscle mass (LSMM) in oncologic patients and to perform a meta-analysis based on a large sample.

Methods: MEDLINE, Cochrane, and SCOPUS databases were screened for associations between LSMM and treatment related toxicity in oncologic patients up to June 2021. Overall, 48 studies met the inclusion criteria.

Ethnic inequalities in older adults bowel cancer awareness: findings from a community survey conducted in an ethnically diverse region in England.

Background: To date, research exploring the public's awareness of bowel cancer has taken place with predominantly white populations. To enhance our understanding of how bowel cancer awareness varies between ethnic groups, and inform the development of targeted interventions, we conducted a questionnaire study across three ethnically diverse regions in Greater London, England.

Methods: Data were collected using an adapted version of the bowel cancer awareness measure.

Patterns of care and follow-up care of patients with uveal melanoma in German-speaking countries: a multinational survey of the German Dermatologic Cooperative Oncology Group (DeCOG).

Purpose: Uveal melanoma (UM) is an orphan cancer of high unmet medical need. Current patterns of care and surveillance remain unclear as they are situated in an interdisciplinary setting.

Methods: A questionnaire addressing the patterns of care and surveillance in the management of patients with uveal melanoma was distributed to 70 skin cancer centers in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Qualitative Study of Practices and Challenges of Stepping Down Asthma Medication in Primary Care Across the UK.

Background: Guidelines recommend that asthma treatment should be stepped down to the minimally effective dose that achieves symptom control to prevent medication side effects and reduce unnecessary costs. Little is known about the practice of stepping down and the challenges in primary care, where most asthma patients are managed.

Objective: To explore views, experiences, barriers and ideas, of doctors, nurses and pharmacists working in primary care, related to step down of asthma medication.

Patients with BRAF-Mutant Advanced/Metastatic Melanoma: Original Research on the Treatment Reality in Germany and Austria in the Era of Choice.

Introduction: Cutaneous melanoma is one of the most aggressive forms of skin neoplasms and represents a major cause of neoplastic or cancer death in Europe. Without adequate therapy, the 5-year survival rate is 15% when the disease metastasizes to distant organs. The objective of our study was to evaluate the status quo of the current treatment standards in stage IV melanoma and rationale for therapy decisions in Germany and Austria between January 2016 and September 2018.
