Background: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, also called apical ballooning syndrome, is a disease that is often triggered by stress factors in postmenopausal women and mimics acute coronary syndrome. The aim of this article is to draw attention to takotsubo cardiomyopathy after surgical treatment of liver hydatid cyst.

Case Summary: A 50-year-old diabetic and hypertensive female patient was evaluated preoperatively before general surgery for liver hydatid cyst, and no cardiac problems were found.

Coronary slow flow (CSF) phenomenon is described angiographically as delayed progression of the injected contrast agents through the coronary arteries. Aim of this study was to analyze ventricular repolarization in CSF patients by using Tpeak-Tend interval, Tpeak-Tend/QT ratio, Tpeak-Tend/QTc ratio and other repolarization parameters since these parameters are used as predictors for ventricular arrhythmogenesis. We have retrospectively analyzed diagnostic coronary angiography results of 160 patients between 2010 and 2014.

Background: It is known that QRS duration is related to prognosis in acute myocardial infarction. The relation between QRS duration and coronary collateral circulation is uncertain. In the present study, we aimed to determine the relation between QRS duration and coronary collateral circulation in patients admitted with acute myocardial infarction.

ST segment elevation is the most common electrocardiographic finding in acute myocardial infarction. ST elevation in chest leads generally represents left anterior descending artery occlusion, while elevation in DII and III, and aVF represents right coronary and circumflex artery occlusion. A female patient aged 66 years was admitted to our emergency service with ST elevation in leads DIII and aVF.

Aim: The pathophysiology of slow coronary flow (SCF) involves atherosclerosis, small vessel dysfunction, platelet function disorders, and inflammation. It has been known that eosinophils also play a significant role in inflammation, vasoconstriction, thrombosis, and endothelial dysfunction. We propose to evaluate the relationship between eosinophilia and SCF.

Background: Delirium is common after cardiac surgery and is independently associated with increased morbidity, mortality, prolonged hospital stays, and higher costs. Cobalamin (vitamin B12) deficiency is a common cause of neuropsychiatric symptoms and affects up to 40% of elderly people. The relationship between cobalamin deficiency and the occurrence of delirium after cardiac surgery has not been examined in previous studies.

Red cell distribution width (RDW) and the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are predictors of cardiovascular risk that have been shown to correlate with impaired reperfusion and increased morbidity and mortality in patients with an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We hypothesized that RDW and the NLR would be associated with failed thrombolysis. One hundred and two STEMI patients were included in the study; 32 had failed thrombolysis while the other 70 fulfilled the criteria for successful thrombolysis.

A study on the sorption of strontium (Sr(2+)) and uranium (UO2(2+)) onto zirconium-antimony oxide/PAN (Zr-Sb oxide/PAN) composite was conducted. The zirconium-antimony oxide was synthesized and was then turned into composite spheres by mixing it with polyacrylonitrile (PAN). The single and combined effects of independent variables such as initial pH, temperature, initial ion concentration and contact time on the sorption of Sr(2+) and UO2(2+) were separately analyzed using response surface methodology (RSM).

Elevated plasma levels of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) are prevalent in patients with hypercholesterolemia and coronary artery disease. A total of 83 patients with hypercholesterolemia and angiographically documented mild coronary artery stenosis were randomized to rosuvastatin treatment (20 mg) or atorvastatin treatment (40 mg) once daily for 6 weeks after a 4-week dietary lead-in phase. Both statins decreased total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglyceride levels effectively.

The pathophysiology of cardiac syndrome X (CSX) is still unclear, but most patients with CSX have endothelial dysfunction. It has been shown that adropin uniquely effects the regulation of endothelial function. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the role of adropin in CSX.

Objectives: There are limited clinical data revealing the relationship between mitral annular calcification (MAC) and systemic inflammation. The goal of the present study was to compare high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in patients with and without MAC and investigate the relationship between MAC and hs-CRP.

Methods: One hundred patients with MAC who underwent transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and 100 age-matched controls without MAC who underwent TTE were included in our study.

Background: It was speculated that fatty tissue originated adipocytokines may play role in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. These adipocytokines may alter vascular homeostasis by effecting endothelial cells, arterial smooth muscle cells and macrophages. Vaspin is a newly described member of adipocytokines family.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the impact of clopidogrel on reperfusion and inflammation in 175 STEMI patients divided into two groups: one receiving standard therapy and the other receiving additional clopidogrel.
  • Patients in the clopidogrel group showed a significantly higher rate of complete ST-segment resolution (63.8% vs. 36.8%) and lower levels of CK-MB and hs-CRP, indicating reduced cardiac damage and inflammation.
  • The findings suggest that incorporating clopidogrel into standard treatment for STEMI can enhance early reperfusion and decrease inflammatory responses.

A hydrous titanium(IV) oxide was prepared to study the adsorption characteristics and the separation of chromium species. Batch sorption studies have been carried out to determine the effect of pH on the sorption of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) on hydrous TiO2. An excellent separation efficiency of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) was obtained at pH 2.

SR 121463 A, 1, is a promising nonpeptide prototype for potent and selective antagonism of the vasopressin V(2) receptor subtype and, thus, a candidate for control of the clinically debilitating condition of hyponatremia and its associated syndromes. In the present work, we present a novel and stereoselective synthesis that stems from the preparation of three key intermediates: the substituted benzenesulfonyl chloride 2, the N-protected oxindole 3, and protected dibromide 4. The synthesis of 1 has been achieved in good overall yield, each step proceeding in greater than 80% yield.

Twenty-two new 2,6,6-trimethyl-3-acetyl-4-aryl-5-oxo-1,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydroquinoline+ ++ derivatives (compounds 1-22) have been prepared. The structures of the compounds were characterised by IR, 1H-NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analyses. The calcium antagonistic activities of the compounds were determined by the tests performed on isolated rabbit ileum and lamb carotid artery.

Sixteen 2-methyl-3-acetyl-4-aryl-5-oxo-1,4-dihydro-5H-indeno(1,2-b)pyridine derivatives (3a-p) have been prepared. The structures of the compounds were characterised by IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, X-Ray and elemental analyses. The calcium antagonistic activity of these compounds were studied in rat taenia coli pre-contracted with 1 mmol/l Ca+2.

In this paper, we synthesized nineteen new compounds having 2,4-diaryl-5-oxohexahydro-2H-1,3-benzoxazine structure by the reaction of 1,3-cyclohexanedione, aromatic aldehyde and ammonium acetate. In addition, we evaluated calcium antagonistic activity of these compounds versus nicardipine.
