In vitro and in vivo evaluation of in situ forming polyester implants for the extended release of carvedilol.

Polyester based in situ forming implants (ISFIs) are injectable long-acting drug delivery systems that offer a wide range of unique advantages. As a result of these advantages, two relatively high molecular weight, ester terminated grades of poly (D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and poly(D,L-lactide) (PLA) were evaluated for their ability (i) to form ISFIs loaded with carvedilol, and (ii) to control its release both in vitro and in vivo. At a polymeric concentration of 40% w/w, implant solutions were syringeable, injectable, and able to encapsulate carvedilol to a high degree (encapsulated drug% > 97%).

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the awareness and knowledge of ionizing radiation in common radiological investigations, as well as the associated risks, among medical and applied medical sciences students at Majmaah University in Majmaah, Saudi Arabia.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 209 participants who completed an anonymous electronic questionnaire consisting of 21 questions. Participants were categorized based on demographic characteristics and assessed for their awareness and knowledge of radiation and its associated risks.

This paper reports the real time monitoring of siderite deposition, on both Au- and Fe-coated surfaces, using the changes in frequency and dissipation of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCMD). In an iron chloride solution saturated with carbon dioxide, buffered with sodium bicarbonate to pH 6.8, roughly spherical particles of siderite formed within 15 min, which subsequently deposited on the QCMD crystal surface.

Therapy-Induced Senescence (TIS) is a form of senescence that is typically described in malignant cells in response to the exposure of cancer chemotherapy or radiation but can also be precipitated in non-malignant cells. TIS has been shown to contribute to the development of several cancer therapy-related adverse effects; however, evidence on its role in mediating chemotherapy-induced neurotoxicity, such as Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN), is limited. We here show that cisplatin treatment over two cycles (cumulative dose of 23 mg/kg) provoked mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia in Sprague-Dawley rats.

Burn injuries are a significant global health challenge, with physical and psychological consequences affecting 180 000 people annually. This study aimed to evaluate public knowledge and practices regarding burn management. This cross-sectional survey included 582 participants to assess their knowledge and practices related to burn management between January 2023 and May 2023.

Pain represents an international burden and a major socio-economic public health problem. New findings, detailed in this review, suggest that adenosine plays a significant role in neuropathic and inflammatory pain, by acting on its metabotropic adenosine receptors (AAR, AAR, AAR, AAR). Adenosine receptor ligands have a practical translational potential based on the favorable efficacy and safety profiles that emerged from clinical research on various agonists and antagonists for different pathologies.

In search of language development for students who are hard of hearing: measuring the effectiveness of assistive technologies through teaching practices.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of assistive technologies (ATs) through e-books in teaching practices aimed at enhancing language development among hard-of-hearing (HH) students. The study implemented an intervention consisting of four language aspects (phonemic awareness, writing, vocabulary, and reading comprehension) wherein the ATs' impacts on language development were assessed. Eighty HH students were divided into control and treatment groups and evaluated through pre- and post-tests.

Determining coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) community incidence threshold for preoperative testing.

Preprocedural testing for severe acute respiratory coronavirus virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is frequently used to reduce perioperative morbidity and mortality during the pandemic. Such testing is resource intensive, and the relative benefits depend on local epidemiology. We propose a threshold of 20 per 100,000 unlinked cases to activate such testing to optimize the yield and positive predictive value.

Mania as a Rare Adverse Event Secondary to Steroid Eye Drops.

Since glucocorticoids (GCs) were introduced for the treatment of various diseases, they have been linked with the development of psychiatric adverse effects such as mania, depression, and psychosis. These behavioral or psychiatric adverse events usually appear within a few days after commencing GCs and are possibly to reverse with drug withdrawal. We present a rare case of a 75-year-old woman who developed mania during treatment with GC eye drops following cataract surgery.

Comparison of Montreal cognitive assessment and Mattis dementia rating scale in the preoperative evaluation of subthalamic stimulation in Parkinson's disease.
