Preoperative mortality risk evaluation in abdominal surgical emergencies: development and internal validation of the NDAR score from a national multicenter audit in Senegal.

Introduction: Abdominal surgical emergencies have a high mortality rate. Effective management primarily relies on the early identification of patients at high risk of postoperative complications. The objective of our study was to determine the prognostic factors associated with poor outcomes from abdominal surgical emergencies in Senegal and to establish a predictive score for mortality for preoperative risk evaluation (NDAR (New Death Assessment Risk) score).

Modeling and optimization of compaction pressure, and retention time in the production process of carbonized sawdust-based biofuel briquettes using response surface methodology (RSM).

The importance of parameters such as compaction pressure, binder percentage and retention time and their interaction in the production of carbonized briquettes for domestic or industrial use cannot be overestimated, as they have a considerable impact on the properties of the resulting briquettes. This study used Box-Behnken Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA) to show how the above parameters and their interactions significantly influence the Higher Heating Value (HHV), ash content and Impact Resistance Index (IRI) of the biofuels obtained. The briquettes are characterized in accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM D-(5865 and 3172).

[Superior mesenteric artery syndrome in gastric cancer: a case report].

Superior mesenteric artery syndrome or Wilkie syndrome is due to the compression of the third duodenum between the superior mesenteric artery and the aorta. It causes acute or chronic upper bowel occlusion. Abdominal CT scan facilitates the diagnosis.

Introduction: Cystic lymphangioma is a benign malformative tumor. The abdominal localization is rare. The diagnosis is not easy in preoperative period.

Electro-generation of hydrogen peroxide using a graphite cathode from exhausted batteries: study of influential parameters on electro-Fenton process.

In this work, the study of hydrogen peroxide (HO) electro-generation using graphite from exhausted batteries (Gr-Bat) was conducted. Linear sweep voltammetry and electrolysis experiments were carried out in a single compartment electrochemical cell. Study of the possibility to use this electrode revealed that it presents, as vitreous carbon (VC) electrode, a reduction of oxygen with two successive waves (bi-electronic reduction).

[Complicated Meckel diverticula: about 15 cases].

We conducted a retrospective study of 15 patients with complicated Meckel diverticula treated in the emergency surgery at the Aristide Le Dantec Hospital, Dakar, over a period of 13 years (January 2003-June 2016). The study included 10 men and 5 women, whose average age was 27.8 years, ranging between 1 months and 73 years.

[Early form of Wilkie's syndrome: a rare complication of scoliosis surgery, about a case and review of the literature].

Superior mesenteric artery syndrome is a rare complication occurring after surgical treatment for scoliosis. Surgical correction of the scoliotic spine produces vertical traction on the mesenteric artery and the narrowing of the aortomesenteric angle, hence the compression of the third part of the duodenum causing the syndrome. We here report the case of a young girl with an early form of superior mesenteric artery syndrome secondary to surgical correction of idiopathic scoliosis.

Traumatic diaphragmatic injuries: epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects.

Introduction: Diaphragmatic injuries include wounds and diaphragm ruptures, due to a thoracoabdominal blunt or penetrating traumas. Their incidence ranges between 0.8 and 15 %.

Appendicular peritonitis in situs inversus totalis: a case report.

Introduction: Situs inversus is a congenital anomaly characterized by the transposition of the abdominal viscera. When associated with dextrocardia, it is known as situs inversus totalis. This condition is rare and can be a diagnostic problem when associated with appendicular peritonitis.
