Purpose: More attention has been focused on the long-term side effects of treatment protocols since impressive advances in childhood cancer treatment have resulted in a growing population of patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate the disturbances of dento-facial development in children who were long-term survivors of childhood malignancies.

Methods: Fifty-three children (mean age, 10 years + 4 months) in long-term remission underwent oral/dental and radiographic examinations after completion of therapy.

Objective: In this study, we compared the success of sinus lifting and alternative treatment methods in applying dental implants in cases lacking adequate bone due to pneumatization of the maxillary sinus.

Methods: In a computer environment, 3D models were created using computerized tomography data from a patient. Additionally, implants and abutments were scanned at the macroscopic level, and the resulting images were transferred to the 3D models.

In this study, the 5-(3-pyridyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol molecule (C7H6N4S) molecule has been characterized by using FT-IR, Laser-Raman, NMR and UV-vis spectroscopies. Quantum chemical calculations have been performed to investigate the molecular structure (thione-thiol tautomerism), vibrational wavenumbers, electronic transition absorption wavelengths in DMSO solvent and vacuum, proton and carbon-13 NMR chemical shifts and HOMOs-LUMOs energies at DFT/B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level for all five tautomers of the title molecule. The obtained results show that the calculated vibrational wavenumbers, NMR chemical shifts and UV-vis wavelengths are in a good agreement with experimental data.

We have reported synthesis and characterization of (E)-2-nitro-4-[(phenylimino)methyl]phenol by using X-ray crystallographic method, FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopies and density functional theory (DFT). Optimized geometry and vibrational frequencies of the title compound in the ground state have been computed by using B3LYP with the 6-311G+(d,p) basis set. HOMO-LUMO energy gap, Non-linear optical properties and NBO analysis of the compound are performed at B3LYP/6-311G+(d,p) level.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) clinically and radiographically when combined with bovine derived hydroxyapatite (HA) bone grafting materials and resorbable collagen membranes for the treatment of intra-bony defects frequently seen at the distal aspect of mandibular second molars following the surgical extraction of fully impacted mandibular wisdom teeth.

Study Design: Eighteen patients were scheduled for post-operative visits at 1, 3 and 6 months post-operatively, probing depths were measured and digital panoramic radiographs were taken.

Results: There were no significant differences on probing depths among two groups.

In this study, isolation and characterization of trans-resveratrol (RES) as an antioxidant compound were carried out from VLE, VLG and VLS. Furthermore, antioxidant activities were evaluated by using six different methods. Finally, total phenolic, flavonoid, ascorbic acid, anthocyanin, lycopene, β-carotene and vitamin E contents were carried out.

Bilateral tonsillolithiasis: a case report.

Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol Oral Radiol Endod

September 2006

Although tonsilloliths are reported to be fairly common, florid cases casting distinct radiopaque shadows on panoramic radiographs are not often reported. This report illustrates such a case as an incidental finding in an asymptomatic 38-year-old female dental patient. Panoramic radiography revealed distinct radiopaque shadows over the ascending rami of the mandible bilaterally.

The aim of this study was to investigate the late effects of treatment for childhood non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) on oral health and dental development. Thirty-six long-term survivors that had been treated with chemotherapy of childhood NHL were included in this study and 36 volunteers with similar age and sex distribution served as controls. Both groups underwent a complete orodental examination for decayed, missing and filled teeth and surfaces, gingival and periodontal health according to the Loe-Silness Gingival Index and Sillnes-Loe Plaque Index, enamel defects and discolorations, root malformations, eruption status, agenesis, premature apexifications and microdontia.

Soft tissue response to three subcutaneously implanted local hemostatic agents; oxidised regenerated cellulose (Surgicel), gelatin sponge (Spongostan) and collagen sponge (Hemostagen) were evaluated histopathologically 7, 14, 21, 30 and 45 days following their implantation in rats. The results showed that all materials were well tolerated by soft tissues. These materials neither seemed to impair nor contribute to wound healing.
