Hypoparathyroidism is a rare metabolic disease. In addition to symptoms of hypocalcemia, chronic hypoparathyroidism can result in brain calcifications leading to Fahr syndrome. Hypoparathyroidism most commonly results as a postsurgical complication, with autoimmune disease the second most common etiology.
