Background: The human gut mycobiome, a minor but integral component of the gut microbiome, has emerged as a significant player in host homeostasis and disease development. While bacteria have traditionally been the focus of gut microbiome studies, recent evidence suggests that fungal communities (mycobiota) may also play a crucial role in modulating health, particularly in neuropsychiatric disorders.

Objective: This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of current knowledge on the relationship between the gut mycobiome and neuropsychiatric disorders, exploring the potential of targeting fungal communities as a novel therapeutic strategy.

Article Synopsis
  • - The gut microbiota significantly impacts human health, particularly through the gut-brain axis, and has been linked to various eye disorders, including age-related macular degeneration.
  • - Recent research has introduced the concept of the gut-retina axis, highlighting how disruptions in gut microbiota could lead to retinal damage and other ocular issues.
  • - This review explores the mechanisms behind the gut-eye axis and suggests possible therapeutic interventions for eye diseases, emphasizing the need for further research in this area.

Addressing a single target is the frequent development of drug resistance followed by cancer relapse and treatment failure. Therefore, assessment of simultaneous expression of target molecules is essential to choose the optimal combination therapy for each colorectal cancer patient. This study aims to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of HIF1α, HER2 and VEGF and to clarify their clinical significance as prognostic factors and predictive markers of FOLFOX (combination chemotherapy inclusive of Leucovorin calcium, Fluorouracil and Oxaliplatin response).

In the era of the diseasomes and interactome networks, linking genetics with phenotypic traits in Turner syndrome should be studied thoroughly. As a part of this stratagem, mosaicism of both X and Y chromosome which is a common finding in TS and an evaluation of congenital heart diseases in the different situations of mosaic TS types, can be helpful in the identification of disturbed sex chromosomes, genes and signaling pathway actors. Here we report the case of a mosaic TS associated to four left-sided CHD, including BAV, COA, aortic aneurysms and dissections at an early age.

We retrospectively evaluated the outcome of 94 consecutive elderly patients treated at our center for an aggressive lymphoma without a low-grade component. Median survival was 26 months and 5-year overall survival was 39% (27-50%). We then evaluated the outcome of patients refractory to or relapsing after CHOP or CHOP-like chemotherapy.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between serum concentration of cardiac troponin T (cTnT) and other cardiac markers and ischemic heart disease (IHD) in end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients on chronic hemodialysis (HD).

Methods: This study was carried out at King Fahd Specialist Hospital, Buraidah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from July 2002 to September 2003. Cardiac troponin T was measured using Elecsys 2020 immunoassay system, a method that is specific for cTnT.
