Introduction Rheumatoid arthritis and its treatment have different effects on weight gain. This study examined the effect of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors on weight gain in patients with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis compared with non-TNF therapy and disease activity. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted in Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Hospital for all patients aged ≥ 18-year-old diagnosed with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis and started on TNF inhibitors or non-TNF biologics in outpatient clinics since 2015.

Development of new approaches for oral delivery of an existing antiviral drug aimed to enhance its permeability and hence bioavailability. Ganciclovir (GC) is an antiviral drug that belongs to class III in biopharmaceutical classification. The encapsulation of poorly absorbed drugs within nanosized particles offers several characteristics to drug due to their acquired surface properties.

Background And Aim: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is the standard of care in advanced pancreatic cancer. Its role in resectable disease, however, is controversial. This meta-analysis aims to ascertain the clinical outcomes of patients with resectable pancreatic cancer undergoing preoperative EUS-FNA compared to those going directly to surgery.

The continuing growth of bacterial resistance makes the top challenge for the healthcare system especially in bone-infections treatment. Current estimates reveal that in 2050 the death ratio caused by bacterial infections can be higher than cancer. The aim of this study is to provide an alternative to currently available bone-infection treatments.

Background: Despite a series of "boxed warnings" (BWs) issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), fluoroquinolones (FQs) are among the most prescribed antibiotics across the world. Moreover, few studies demonstrated that BW of FQs had less or no impact on prescribing patterns among healthcare professionals (HCPs), which might be attributed to the lack of knowledge toward such warnings. Since FQs contribute to a major proportion of antimicrobial prescriptions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), this study aimed to ascertain the extent of knowledge toward safety profile, use, and BW of FQs among HCPs working in the KSA.

seed mucilage (MPM) is composed of glucuronoxylan, which is a swellable, pH-responsive and non-toxic biomaterial. Herein, we aimed to extract MPM from seeds (MP seeds) to ascertain optimization of extraction conditions to get highest yield by response surface methodology, via Box-Behnken design (RSM-BBD). MPM was extracted from MP seeds by a hot water extraction method.

Purpose: Given the efficacy of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT), optimizing systems of delivery is crucial. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the gold standard for evaluating tissue viability but may require more time to obtain and interpret. We sought to identify determinants of arrival-to-puncture time for patients who underwent MRI-based EVT selection in a real-world setting.

The use of nanoparticles for developing vaccines has become a routine process for researchers and pharmaceutical companies. Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) are chemical inert, have low toxicity, and are easy to modify and functionalize, making them an attractive choice for nanovaccine development. GNPs are modified for diagnostics and detection of many pathogens.

In this preclinical two-dose mucosal immunization study, using a combination of S1 spike and nucleocapsid proteins with cationic (N3)/or anionic (L3) lipids were investigated using an intranasal delivery route. The study showed that nasal administration of low amounts of antigens/adjuvants induced a primary and secondary immune response in systemic IgG, mIL-5, and IFN-gamma secreting T lymphocytes, as well as humoral IgA in nasal and intestinal mucosal compartments. It is believed that recipients will benefit from receiving a combination of viral antigens in promoting a border immune response against present and evolving contagious viruses.

A meta-analysis was performed to assess the effect of surgical site wound infections and risk factors in neonates undergoing surgery. A systematic literature search up to January 2022 incorporated 17 trials involving 645 neonates who underwent surgery at the beginning of the trial; 198 of them had surgical site wound infections, and 447 were control for neonates. The statistical tools like the dichotomous or continuous method used within a random or fixed-influence model to establish the odds ratio (OR) and mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to evaluate the risk factors and influence of surgical site wound infections in neonates undergoing surgery.

Statistical models perform an essential role in data analysis, and statisticians are constantly looking for novel or pretty recent statistical models to fit data sets across a broad variety of fields. In this study, we used modified Kies generalized transformation and the new power function to suggest an unique statistical model. We present and discuss a linear illustration of the density function.
