The lateral calcaneal artery flap is an axial flap which comprises also the saphenous vein and the sural nerve. Its use has been reported for coverage of skin loss of the malleolus and calcaneal area. The donor area should be closed by a split thickness skin graft.

Ten patients with losses of frontal bone were operated with the use of bone grafts taken from the parietal area without craniotomy. In all patients the contour was restored without complications at the donor area. Results were evaluated clinically and radiologically one year later and no absorption was observed.

The authors perform an experimental study in rats to demonstrate the integration of fat cells transplanted from the inguinal region to the dorsal region of the same animal. Histological studies were performed with the material removed and with the material injected. Final results show the transplanted fat cell integration after 360 days.

The authors present an anatomical study of a fasciocutaneous flap of the lower limb and its clinical application. Sixteen patients with loss of cutaneous substance and exposure of the leg bone were operated on. The bipedicled fasciocutaneous flap presented by the authors allows the coverage of large areas of the lower limb in the initial stage of treatment.

Administration of progesterone (5 or 10 mg) to pregnant rats increased serum prolactin significantly on the afternoon of Days 4, 6, 7 and 8 of pregnancy, but had no effect on later days. On Day 10 progesterone administration increased serum prolactin only in rats treated with oestrogen the day before. A similar treatment with oestrogen and progesterone was unable to stimulate secretion on the afternoon of Day 13 of pregnancy.

An anatomical study was undertaken in order to obtain data on the vascularity of the posterior fascia of the leg. Injection studies revealed there to be three "distal" pedicles; one between the peroneal and soleus muscles, emerging 10-15 cm above the lateral malleolus and two other, smaller ones, 5 cm above the medial and lateral malleolus. Clinical experience included seven cases: five with trauma and two with varicose ulcers.
