Background: Adipokines are associated with cardiovascular disease; in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients adipokines could be useful prognostic factors.

Objectives: To explore whether leptin and adiponectin in kidney replacement therapy (KRT) children could have a role on their cardiac function, in the long-term.

Design: Prospective cohort study was performed with pediatric KRT patients, aged 8 to 17 years who were undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Background: Knowledge of chronic kidney disease (CKD) with pubertal disorders (PD) in adolescent boys is limited as few studies have explored this disorder. This study aimed to identify the usefulness of assessing hormonal parameters in male adolescents with CKD and their correlation with PD in a 12-month follow-up period.

Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted among male adolescents with CKD (stages IV and V).

Background: leptin and adiponectin are associated with cardiovascular disease in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients and could be useful prognostic factors. Objectives. to explore the usefulness of the leptin/adiponectin ratio (LAR) to predict the presence or worsening of dyslipidemia during 1 year of follow-up in children receiving kidney replacement therapy (KRT).

Background: The prevalence of chronic diseases (CDs) in the pediatric population has increased due to technological advances that decrease mortality and increase survival.

Aim Of The Study: To compare the frequency of cardiometabolic factors (CFs) among pediatric patients with CDs with those among children with obesity and overweight without CDs.

Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study.

One of the most important things in the field of adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN) is the identification of the newly generated cells. The immunodetection of thymidine analogs (such as 5-Bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU)) is a standard technique used for visualizing these newly generated cells. Therefore, BrdU is usually injected in small animals intraperitoneally, so the thymidine analog gets incorporated into dividing cells during DNA synthesis.

Background: In adolescents with chronic kidney disease (CKD), menstrual disorders (MD) are common, which can make the management of CKD difficult and can sometimes delay renal transplantation. This study aimed to identify the usefulness of hormonal measurements in adolescents with CKD and their relationships with MD during a 1-year follow-up.

Methods: A prospective cohort study was designed.

Objective: To analyze the correlation between pathological data found in radical prostatectomy and previously performed biopsy in patients at low risk prostate cancer.

Material And Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the characteristics of radical prostatectomies performed in our center from January 2012 to November 2014. The inclusion criteria were patients with low-risk disease (cT1c-T2a, PSA≤10ng/mL and Gleason score≤6).

Since 2007, various urological procedures have been performed with laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS surgery), including nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, simple prostatectomy and, with the refinement of laparoscopic instrumentation, radical prostatectomy. This paper reports our initial experience in radical prostatectomy using the SILS Port from Covidiem and two lateral 5-mm trocars for triangulation. The SILS Port allows for accurate, simple insertion through a Hadson incision.

Background: Pernicious anemia (PA), as many other autoimmune disorders, has a trend to appear in other members of the family of the affected patients. Although this fact has been recognized since some decades ago, less is known about the frequency with which the abnormalities detected in the patients appear also in their relatives, the correlations that exist among these abnormalities and to what extent these markers of the disease relate to serum cobalamin concentration.

Subjects And Results: For these reasons we studied the values of some markers of PA in a group of 79 first-degree relatives and we detected that the most frequent abnormalities are a decrease in serum pepsinogen I (22.

CA 125 and CA 15.3 serum levels were measured at diagnosis, after treatment and at the time of recurrence in 200 consecutive patients (114 males, median age 56 years) with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) to explore its usefulness in the evaluation of response to treatment and survival in patients with NHL compared to lactate dehydrogense (LDH) and beta2-microglobulin (beta2-M). Their association with the clinical - biologic parameters at diagnosis, response to treatment, event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) was analysed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at why some patients didn't get stem cell transplants, even though they were referred for it.
  • Out of 129 patients, 37 (about 29%) didn’t have the transplant due to reasons like their disease getting worse or changes in treatment plans.
  • Most patients in the study were around 46 years old, and the researchers found that age and disease status were key differences between those who got the transplant and those who didn’t.

Objectives: Although not very frequent, erectile dysfunction (ED) in patients younger than 40 years represents a disease to be kept in mind in our sanitary area. We propose a study of the various risk factors identified in this population group.

Methods: We studied a total of 736 patients with diagnosis of ED following our protocol, using as inclusion criteria being between 19 and 40 years of age.

Objectives: To evaluate the answer and side-effects after the test of intracavernous injection of prostaglandin E1 in patients with erectile dysfunction.

Material And Method: In the last three years we have carried on 500 tests of intracavernous injection of prostaglandin E1 with the support of infirmary. The purpose was to train the patient and his partner on this technique.
