The marine bacteria Saccharophagus degradans (also known as Microbulbifer degradans), are rod-shaped and gram-negative motile γ-proteobacteria, capable of both degrading a variety of complex polysaccharides and fermenting monosaccharides into ethanol. In order to obtain insights into structure-function relationships of the enzymes, involved in these biochemical processes, we characterized a S. degradans β-glycosidase from glycoside hydrolase family 1 (SdBgl1B).

Thus, this work proposes a new procedure to carry out the derivatization of fatty acids without the need for prior extraction of lipids.

Neutron Scattering of Residual Hydrogen in 1,4-Dioxane-d8 Liquid: Understanding Measurements with Molecular Dynamics Simulations.

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a disease caused by Leishmania infantum, which is transmitted by phlebotomine sandflies. Dogs are the main urban reservoir of this parasite and the disease presents similar characteristics in both humans and dogs. In this paper, we investigated the potential pathways involved in plasma cell replacement of normal cell populations in the spleen, with respect to disease severity in dogs from an endemic area for visceral leishmaniasis.

The aim of this work was to assess the influence of dynamic luminance contrast noise masking (LCNM) on color discrimination for color normal and anomalous trichromats. The stimulus was a colored target on a background presented on a calibrated CRT display. In the present study, the effects of dietary resistant starch (RS) content on serum metabolite and hormone concentrations, milk composition, and faecal microbial profiling in lactating sows, as well as on offspring performance was investigated. Sixteen sows were randomly allotted at breeding to two treatments containing low- and high-RS contents from normal and high-amylose corn varieties, respectively, and each treatment had eight replicates (sows). Translation and validation of the Brazilian version of the Cerebral Palsy Quality of Life Questionnaire for Children - child report.

Objective: To verify the psychometric properties of the Cerebral Palsy: Quality of Life Questionnaire Children - child report (CPQol-Child) questionnaire, after it was translated and culturally adapted into Brazilian Portuguese.

Methods: After the translation and cultural adaptation of the tool into Brazilian Portuguese, the questionnaire was answered by 65 children with cerebral palsy, aged 9-12 years. The intraclass correlation coefficient and Cronbach's alpha were used to assess the reliability and internal consistency of the tool and its validity was analyzed through the association between CPQol-Child: self-report tool and Kidscreen-10 using Pearson's correlation coefficient.

Stability of treatments for recurrent temporomandibular joint luxation: a systematic review.

Temporomandibular joint luxation (TMJ) is the excessive anterior translation of the mandibular condyle out of its normal range of movement and away from the glenoid fossa. Once dislocation occurs, the abnormal condylar position generates reflex contractions of the masticatory muscles, which in turn hinder movement of the condyle back to its resting position.
