Objective: Recently, several non-conventional variants of IBD-associated dysplasia have been described; however, their prevalence in Central-Eastern Europe is unknown. We aimed to perform a retrospective pilot study by re-evaluating several IBD-associated adenocarcinoma cases to survey the incidence of adjacent non-conventional dysplasia and validate that recent North American findings may apply to a European population.

Methods: Retrospectively, 28 randomly chosen cases of IBD-associated adenocarcinomas diagnosed between 2010 and 2022 were re-evaluated.

Histological grade is a validated prognostic factor of breast cancer but may show alterations following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). Its reporting after NACT is recommended by several guidelines, but evidence of its retained prognostic impact is scarce. Patients treated with NACT followed by surgery and having sufficient residual tumour for the determination of grade were analysed for the survival effects of posttreatment grade (yG).

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is known to develop due to the accumulation of both genetic and epigenetic alterations, resulting in the conversion of intestinal epithelial cells to malignant adenocarcinoma cells. Caudal type homeobox 1 () gene is a homeobox transcription factor and a selective tumour suppressor gene that is an important factor for the development of intestinal cells. This gene plays a role in the differentiation of intestinal epithelial cells, and its expression decreases in a number of cell lines derived from CRC, which suggests that a lack of expression is a risk factor for the development of colorectal carcinoma.

Vitamin B (Vit B) plays a regulatory role in cognitive memory and learning. We examined the biochemical and behavioral effects of biotin supplementation (BS) and swimming training (ST) on Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common type of dementia, in male rats. Sixty rats were randomly assigned to six groups: control, sham (receiving phosphate-buffered saline), AD (receiving a single injection of Aβ into the lateral ventricle), ST (for 28 days and before Aβ injection), and BS (receiving BS through oral gavage for 28 days before Aβ injection).

Angiosarcoma (AS) of the breast, a rare mesenchymal neoplasm, exhibits distinct forms based on etiological and genetic features. While cases with typical clinical presentation and morphology allow for a straightforward diagnosis, challenges arise when clinical data are scarce, diagnostic material is limited, or morphological characteristics overlap with other tumors, including undifferentiated carcinomas. The trichorhinophalangeal syndrome protein 1 (TRPS1), once regarded as highly specific for breast carcinomas, now faces doubts regarding its reliability.

Article Synopsis
  • The stem cell theory is the prevailing explanation for cancer, suggesting that cancer stem cells, which can renew themselves and are found in specialized niches, contribute to tumor recurrence and progression.
  • In a study focusing on triple-negative breast cancer, researchers analyzed the expression of several stem cell markers—ALDH1, AnnexinA1, CD44, CD117, CD166, Nanog, and oct-4—looking for correlations with patient prognosis.
  • While ALDH1 and CD117 were linked to disease-free survival (DFS), and CD44, CD117, and CD166 to overall survival (OS), the study concluded that most markers did not show a significant prognostic impact, highlighting the importance of ALDH1 and CD44 for further

Elevated mitochondrial metabolism promotes tumorigenesis of Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcomas (ERMS). Accordingly, targeting oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) could represent a therapeutic strategy for ERMS. We previously demonstrated that genetic reduction of Staufen1 (STAU1) levels results in the inhibition of ERMS tumorigenicity.
