Cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) generate substantial data, often stored in image or PDF formats. Remote monitoring, now an integral component of patient care, places considerable administrative burdens on clinicians and staff, in large part due to the challenge of integrating these data seamlessly into electronic health records. Since 2006, the Heart Rhythm Society, in collaboration with the CIED industry, has led an initiative to establish a unified standard nomenclature.

Anion-driven, nanoscale polar-apolar structural organization is investigated in a solvate ionic liquid (SIL) setting by comparing sulfonate-based anions with long and short perfluorinated alkyl chains. Representative SILs are created from 1,2-bis(2-methoxyethoxy)ethane ("triglyme" or "G3"), lithium nonafluoro-1-butanesulfonate, and lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate. Molecular dynamics simulations, density functional theory computations, and vibrational spectroscopy provide insight into the overall liquid structure, cation-solvent interactions, and cation-anion association.

Multiple bench-scale filtration campaigns of Hanford tank waste supernatant on a backpulseable dead-end filtration skid have provided greater insight into the solids that cause fouling and reduce filter performance. The solids collected during each campaign were concentrated from the backpulse solutions and examined using automated particle analysis (APA) methods with scanning electron microscopy and X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy to categorize particle types and their morphological characteristics. We show that with APA, thousands of particles can be analyzed to provide accurate insight into the phases that may be impacting filter performance.

The Mormon cricket, Anabrus simplex, is a flightless katydid, one of the major devastating rangeland pests in several states of the western United States. During the past few years, their sudden and periodic outbreaks into massive migratory bands caused significant economic losses to the rangeland forage and agricultural crops, particularly grain crops. Current population management methods rely heavily on broad-spectrum chemical insecticides, which could be toxic to nontargets, and even the targeted species might develop resistance in the long run.

Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) improves survival for patients with chemotherapy-sensitive lymphoma. Validated scoring systems are used in the clinical setting to predict treatment toxicity and survival; however, complications related to disease and treatment still occur, highlighting challenges in optimal patient selection and the need for novel predictors. Analysis of body composition and muscle mass can provide an objective assessment to identify vulnerable populations, as sarcopenia and frailty have been reported to predict outcomes in other tumor types.

The metal-to-insulator transition in rutile VO_{2} has proven uniquely difficult to characterize because of the complex interplay between electron correlations and atomic structure. Here, we report the discovery of the sudden collapse of three-dimensional order in the low-temperature phase of V_{1-x}Mo_{x}O_{2} at x=0.17 and the emergence of a novel frustrated two-dimensional order at x=0.

Habituation and sensitization (nonassociative learning) are among the most fundamental forms of learning and memory behavior present in organisms that enable adaptation and learning in dynamic environments. Emulating such features of intelligence found in nature in the solid state can serve as inspiration for algorithmic simulations in artificial neural networks and potential use in neuromorphic computing. Here, we demonstrate nonassociative learning with a prototypical Mott insulator, nickel oxide (NiO), under a variety of external stimuli at and above room temperature.

Traditional feeding protocols withhold oral intake until the return of bowel function for concern of postoperative complications following elective colorectal surgery. Implementation of early feeding into clinical practice challenges this conventional approach. The purpose of this literature review is to analyze the current evidence and compare the impact of traditional versus early oral feeding protocols on postoperative outcomes following elective colorectal resection.

In ovarian cancer (OC), IL-17-producing T cells (Th17s) predict improved survival, whereas regulatory T cells predict poorer survival. We previously developed a vaccine whereby patient-derived dendritic cells (DCs) are programmed to induce Th17 responses to the OC antigen folate receptor alpha (FRα). Here we report the results of a single-arm open-label phase I clinical trial designed to determine vaccine safety and tolerability (primary outcomes) and recurrence-free survival (secondary outcome).
