Background And Objectives: Since the initial description of related hemiplegic migraine (HM), the phenotypic spectrum has expanded from mild episodes in neurotypical individuals to potentially life-threatening events frequently seen in individuals with developmental and epileptic encephalopathies. However, the overall longitudinal course throughout childhood remains unknown.

Methods: We analyzed HM and seizure history from electronic medical records in individuals with -related HM, delineating frequency and severity of events in monthly increments through a standardized approach.

Objective: Obesity is related to the recurrence of breast cancer. In-person groups or individual telephone counseling currently comprise the behavioral weight loss (BWL) programs tested for cancer survivors. Group support via telehealth may be convenient and provide support from fellow survivors, but feasibility, acceptability, and efficacy testing are needed.

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness around the world. Black individuals are two times more likely to be diagnosed with glaucoma compared to White individuals. In 2019, the prevalence of glaucoma in Monroe County was highest amongst older individuals aged 85 and non-Hispanic Blacks.

Article Synopsis
  • - The GET-WEL Program aimed to help Black and White breast cancer survivors (BCS) lose weight but saw lower enrollment and weight loss among Black participants compared to White participants, prompting the need for understanding barriers and facilitators to equitable participation.
  • - A study conducted semi-structured interviews with 24 BCS who did or did not participate in GET-WEL, revealing no major differences between Black and White participants in their experiences, but highlighting common barriers like lack of program awareness and challenges accessing healthy food.
  • - Findings suggest that increasing awareness of the program and providing resources for healthy food access and work/life balance could improve enrollment and support healthy lifestyles for minoritized BCS in future GET-WEL implementations.

Introduction: -related Hemiplegic Migraine (HM) is a rare neurological disorder distinguished by paroxysmal episodes of hemiparesis/hemiplegia with and without headache. Clinical features have been widely characterized, yet the impacts of the paroxysmal events on the patient and caregiver have not been thoroughly explored. Disease concept models are formal frameworks used to describe the lived experiences of patients and their families, offering a source for surrogate endpoints for clinical trials.

Background: Psychiatric diagnoses are common among adults with severe obesity (body mass index [BMI] ≥40 kg/m) and may be associated with hypertension.

Objectives: To determine the association between lifetime and current psychiatric diagnoses, separately, with hypertension, uncontrolled blood pressure (BP), and systolic BP (SBP) among adults with severe obesity undergoing metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS).

Setting: Academic medical center.

Antibiotics save lives but can have unwanted effects on our gut microbes, thereby contributing to disease. A mechanistic understanding of how such microbes respond to antibiotics is hence critical. Recently in , Nilson et al.

Purpose: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI) people face unique challenges in cancer care. This mixed methods study examined LGBTQI patients' satisfaction with cancer care and factors associated with satisfaction, including experiences of LGBTQI disclosure. The study also explored what helps to facilitate safe disclosure and improve satisfaction with care for this population.

Objective: This study aims to develop a measurement model for health technology acceptability using a theoretical framework and a range of validated instruments to measure user experience, acceptance, usability, health and digital health literacy.

Methods: A cross-sectional evaluation study using a mixed-methods approach was conducted. An online survey was administered to patients who used a pulse oximeter in a virtual hospital setting during COVID-19.

Objectives: This paper focuses on the experiences of bereavement guilt among young adults bereaved by a caregiver's cancer, examining associations with attachment style, experiential avoidance, and psychological flexibility with the aim of informing psychosocial interventions for this population.

Methods: Ninety-seven young adults (18-25 years) bereaved by a parent/guardian's cancer completed an online survey, including measures of bereavement guilt, attachment style, experiential avoidance, and psychological flexibility. Mediation analyses explored the associations between attachment style (anxious, avoidant) and bereavement guilt, and if these associations were mediated by experiential avoidance or psychological flexibility.

Unlabelled: is well-known for its antimicrobial resistance and the ability to survive in harsh environmental conditions due to an abundance of resistance mechanisms, including the formation of biofilms and the production of exopolysaccharides. Exopolysaccharides are among the major components of the extracellular matrix in biofilms and aggregates of . Although their contribution to antibiotic resistance has been previously shown, their roles in resistance to oxidative stressors remain largely elusive.

Reactive chlorine species (RCS) like sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) are potent oxidizing agents and widely used biocides in surface disinfection, water treatment, and biofilm elimination. Moreover, RCS are also produced by the human immune system to kill invading pathogens. However, bacteria have developed mechanisms to survive the damage caused by RCS.

We report the draft genome sequence and antimicrobial resistance gene profile of a methicillin-resistant (MRSA) clinical isolate recovered from a chronic pressure injury wound infection of an adult female patient. The draft genome sequence included a 2.86-Mb chromosome, which was accompanied by a 27-kb plasmid containing .

Purpose: Increasing concern that brainstem toxicity incidence after proton radiation therapy might be higher than with photons led to a 2014 University of Florida (UF) landmark paper identifying its risk factors and proposing more conservative dose constraints. We evaluated how practice patterns changed among the Pediatric Proton/Photon Consortium Registry (PPCR).

Material And Methods: This prospective multicenter cohort study gathered data from patients under the age of 22 years enrolled on the PPCR, treated between 2002 and 2019 for primary posterior fossa brain tumors.

Prior research on ultra-processed food addiction (FA) has utilized the self-report Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS) measures to identify individuals who experience indicators of substance-use disorders with respect to their consumption of ultra-processed foods. Studies using the YFAS have provided insight into the clinical utility of FA as both a distinct construct and an indicator of more severe psychopathology among individuals with eating disorders. However, the absence of clinician-administered assessment tools for FA has been identified as a barrier to the evaluation of FA as a novel clinical syndrome.

The mild hypothermia response (MHR) maintains organismal homeostasis during cold exposure and is thought to be critical for the neuroprotection documented with therapeutic hypothermia. To date, little is known about the transcriptional regulation of the MHR. We utilize a forward CRISPR-Cas9 mutagenesis screen to identify the histone lysine methyltransferase SMYD5 as a regulator of the MHR.

In a variety of infections, bacteria form multicellular communities which contribute to virulence and antibiotic tolerance. The molecular biology of such communities is actively studied, but our understanding of them remains incomplete. In this issue, Şimşek et al have developed and experimentally validated a dynamic model for community formation and revealed general insights into bacterial collective survival during antibiotic exposure.

Objective: Explore the experiences of people with knee osteoarthritis (OA) who received a very low energy diet (VLED) and exercise program from a physiotherapist.

Methods: Mixed methods study involving questionnaires (n = 42) and semistructured interviews (n = 22) with randomized control trial participants with knee OA who had received a 6-month physiotherapist-delivered VLED weight loss and exercise intervention. Questionnaires measured participant satisfaction and perceptions about physiotherapist's skills/knowledge in delivery of the dietary intervention (measured on 5-7 point Likert scales).
