Background: Historically, the child care industry has been unprepared for emergencies. A previous study identified gaps in Michigan's child care programs' emergency plans. Study objectives were to reassess programs' preparedness plans after introduction of state-mandated emergency plans and to examine the effect of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on programs' operations.

Background: Pertussis is a serious public health concern and accurate diagnosis is imperative. Comprehensive, multiplex respiratory pathogen polymerase chain reaction (PCR) panels (RPPs) have recently become popular, but their utility in excluding pertussis infection has not been fully explored.
Objectives: To determine RPP testing results for pertussis using frozen banked samples that previously tested positive on dedicated Bordetella pertussis PCR testing, and to describe positive test rates for other respiratory pathogens on these samples via RPP.
Objective: To determine whether using emergency department (ED) virtual observation for select pediatric conditions decreases admission rates for these conditions, and to examine effects on length of stay.
Methods: The option of ED virtual observation care for 9 common pediatric conditions was introduced in 2009; associated order sets were developed. Retrospective secondary analyses of administrative data from our tertiary care pediatric ED and children's hospital were performed for the year before (year 0) and after (year 1) this disposition option was introduced.
Background: Patient discharge from the hospital is linked to physician-led rounds, whereas discharge from the emergency department (ED) is more fluid. The relationship between rounding and length of stay (LOS) has not been quantitatively described.
Objectives: To describe the arrival and discharge patterns in the ED and inpatient settings for children with respiratory illnesses and to explore how the timing and frequency of rounding could impact LOS.
Neuropeptide Y (NPY) Y1 and Y5 receptor subtypes mediate many of NPY's diverse actions in the central nervous system. The present studies use polyclonal antibodies directed against the Y1 and Y5 receptors to map and compare the relative distribution of these NPY receptor subtypes within the rat brain. Antibody specificity was assessed by using Western analysis, preadsorption of the antibody with peptide, and preimmune serum controls.
