Introduction: Pilot studies are important initial steps in research, providing a preliminary assessment of the practicality, feasibility, and potential challenges of a proposed study. This study attempts to assess the feasibility, practicality, and acceptability of a study that integrates a human-animal contact (HAC) questionnaire, animal biodiversity survey using acoustic analysis, and zoonotic disease investigation in animals among rural households in the Central River Region (CRR) of The Gambia. The pilot study revealed granular insights that would otherwise go unnoticed, providing vital information that directly guided the design and implementation of the subsequent full-scale study on zoonotic disease risk.

Article Synopsis
  • Many people worldwide want to find ways to stop future pandemics from happening.
  • While there has been a lot of focus on preparing for and responding to pandemics, preventing diseases from spreading from animals to humans isn't talked about much.
  • The text suggests we should pay more attention to how environmental changes can cause these spills and offers ideas on how to make policies that help prevent them.

Smart farming, as a branch of the Internet of Things (IoT), combines the recognition of agricultural economic competencies and the progress of data and information collected from connected devices with statistical analysis to characterize the essentials of the assimilated information, allowing farmers to make intelligent conclusions that will maximize the harvest benefit. However, the integration of advanced technologies requires the adoption of high-tech security approaches. In this paper, we present a framework that promises to enhance the security and privacy of smart farms by leveraging the decentralized nature of blockchain technology.

This study successfully deposited Si-doped CrN coatings onto Si (100) substrate by direct current magnetron sputtering. The concentration of Si in the CrSiN coatings was varied by changing the Si target current during deposition. The microstructural and mechanical properties were determined by employing X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and nanoindentation test.

Climate change and environmental degradation are among the greatest threats to human health. Youth campaigners have very effectively focused global attention on the crisis, however children from the Global South are often under-represented (sometimes deliberately) in the dialogue. In The Gambia, West Africa, the impacts of climate change are already being directly experienced by the population, and this will worsen in coming years.

Objectives: This study evaluates the effectiveness of an intervention that engaged traditional barbers to inform parents about the importance of vaccination and then refer newborns for vaccination services.

Methods: We conducted a pre-post quasi-experimental study (n = 2639) to evaluate changes in the coverage of three birth antigens among children aged 0-5 months in response to the intervention. We also conducted in-depth interviews and focus group discussions to assess the enabling factors and challenges associated with implementation.

The dependency of adsorption behaviour on the aspect ratio of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) has been explored. In this study, effect of growth temperature on yield and aspect ratio of MWCNTs by catalytic chemical vapour deposition (CCVD) method is reported. The result revealed that yield and aspect ratio of synthesised MWCNTs strongly depend on the growth temperature during CCVD operation.
