Isolated pancreatic injuries that result from blunt abdominal trauma are a rare occurrence due to the retroperitoneal location of the pancreas that shields the pancreas from trauma. The nonspecific clinical presentations of patients can delay the diagnosis and complicate the decision in patient care. It is crucial that a high degree of suspicion is maintained for pancreatic injuries in cases like this one.

Introduction: Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is currently widely used for the initial screening of patients with thyroid nodules enabling prevention of unnecessary surgery. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyse the diagnostic accuracy of thyroid FNAB compared with postoperative histopathology of a large cohort from Azerbaijan.

Methods: We evaluated the FNAB results of 738 patients who underwent thyroid surgery at the National Centre of Oncology in Azerbaijan.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Carboplatin and cisplatin based regimens are used in the treatment of NSCLC. The aim of the study was to find out whether there is a difference in white matter (WM) changes between two platinum-based chemotherapy agents using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI).

A 21-year male presenting with left testicular mass and retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy underwent radical orchiectomy; and his pathological examination showed a mixed germ cell tumor composed of primitive neuroectodermal tumor mixed with mature teratoma. Six cycles of IE (ifosfamide, etoposide) and VAC (vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide) chemotherapy were given after sperm preservation. He then underwent retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND).

Background: Gallium 68-tetraazacyclododecane-tetraacetic acid-octreotate ([68Ga]Ga-DOTA-TATE) is a selective somatostatin analogue ligand, which shows increased affinity for somatostatin receptor subtype (SSTR) 2 and has been used routinely for imaging neuroendocrine tumors with PET/CT. We investigated the utility of [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-TATE positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in patients with suspected pituitary pathology. We reviewed imaging for twenty consecutive patients (8 men, 12 women, mean age of 48.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors are effectively being used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. Although most of their adverse effects are mild to moderate, they occasionally can cause life-threatening interstitial lung disease. We aimed to present a case of lung adenocarcinoma successfully re-treated with erlotinib after recovery with effective treatment of erlotinib-induced interstitial lung disease.

The electrochemical reduction of iron (III) ions into zero-valent iron from a solution of ethylene glycol was accomplished. The kinetics and mechanism of the electroreduction process were investigated by cyclic and linear polarization techniques. The influence of temperature, potential sweep rate, and concentration of iron (III) ions on the electroreduction process was also studied.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates differences in DTI values of brain metastases from lung adenocarcinoma based on the EGFR gene mutation status.
  • Seventeen patients with 32 metastatic lesions were analyzed, splitting them into two groups: those with EGFR mutations and those without.
  • The results showed significant differences in ADC, nADC, AD, and RD values between the two groups, with lower values in the EGFR mutation-positive group, which could help predict mutation status and inform clinical decisions.
