Cutaneous ciliated cyst of the scalp: a case report of a cutaneous ciliated eccrine cyst and a brief review of the literature.

Cutaneous ciliated cysts (CCC) are rare benign cysts known to occur in the lower extremities of females of reproductive age. Currently, there are 2 theories that attempt to explain the histogenesis of this rare entity. The theory of Mullerian heterotopia provides a plausible histogenetic explanation for the vast majority of CCC.

Examination of sources of diagnostic error leading to cervical cone biopsies with no evidence of dysplasia.

At our institution, 17% of cervical conization specimens are reported as negative for dysplasia or malignancy. To identify sources of error, we reviewed 53 negative conization specimens and their prior and follow-up cytology, biopsy, and endocervical curettage specimens. Examination of deeper-level sections and p16 immunostaining were performed on all conization specimens and selected biopsy specimens.

A potential new method to estimate tissue cystine content in nephropathic cystinosis.

Objectives: To evaluate intestinal mucosal cystine crystal (CC) load as a way to estimate tissue cystine content in children with cystinosis.

Study Design: Intestinal mucosal biopsies were obtained endoscopically from children (ages 2-18 years) with cystinosis. Using a special processing technique, CC within histiocytes were easily visible and enumerable in the mucosal tissue.
