  • - Neonatal deaths and stillbirths are critical health issues in Pakistan, particularly in Rehri Goth, where high rates (43 stillbirths and 46 neonatal deaths per 1,000 births) are attributed to poor healthcare access and extreme poverty.
  • - A mixed-method study conducted from May 2014 to June 2018 used the Verbal and Social Autopsy (VASA) tool to analyze the causes of these deaths through interviews with mothers and caregivers, along with medical records when available.
  • - Key findings revealed that the main causes for stillbirths included pregnancy-induced hypertension and obstructed labor, while neonatal deaths were largely due to perinatal asphyxia and complications from preterm birth.
