The Effect of Probiotic Plus Prebiotic Supplementation on the Tolerance and Efficacy of Eradication Quadruple Therapy: a Randomized Prospective Double Blind Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND Standard anti-H () treatment fails in the eradication of the organism in almost 10-35% of the patients and has different side effects. Recent studies have proposed that probiotic supplementations with or without prebiotic may improve the eradication rate and diminish the side effects, although it is still a controversial issue. We aimed to investigate the effect of probiotic with prebiotic supplementation on the eradication rate and side effects of anti quadruple therapy.

Pulmonary involvement in rheumatoid arthritis: A cross-sectional study in Iran.

Background: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a type of pulmonary manifestation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Mostly RA-ILD has no symptoms and is only diagnosed by clinical examination, pulmonary function test (PFT), and high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT); hence it seems that the diagnosis of pulmonary involvement in early stages of RA is of great importance. Therefore, we decided to answer this question whether the evaluation of RA patients without pulmonary symptoms using methods such as PFT and HRCT are justifiable and reasonable or not.

Classification and Management of Subcutaneous Emphysema: a 10-Year Experience.

Subcutaneous emphysema (SE) is a condition often causing minimal symptoms, but sometimes it can be severe and even life-threatening. This study is the first great survey about SE. The aim of this study is to classify and evaluate the etiology, signs, symptoms, and management of SE.

Validation of fibromyalgia survey questionnaire and polysymptomatic distress scale in a Persian population.

The aim of this study was to assess validity of the fibromyalgia survey questionnaire (FSQ) and polysymptomatic distress scale (PSD) in an Iranian population. We also sought to classify the severity levels of fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms according to the PSD scale. Participants were divided into FM and non-FM chronic pain disorder groups according to expert physician diagnosis.

Taenia: An Uninvited Guest.

Background: Taenia saginata and Taenia solium species are worldwide in distribution, causing bovine and porcine cysticercosis, and taeniasis in humans having the greatest economic and medical importance.

Case Report: A 55-year-old woman living in a village around Rasht (northern Iran) was referred to our hospital with a history of chronic abdominal pain and recent dyspepsia and epigastric fullness. According to her clinical history, she was a candidate for an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

The Iceberg Nature of Fibromyalgia Burden: The Clinical and Economic Aspects.

This review has focused on important but less visible aspects of fibromyalgia (FM) with respect to the high impact of this disorder on patients and societies. FM is a common but challengeable illness. It is characterized by chronic widespread pain, which can be accompanied by other symptoms including fatigue, sleep disturbances, cognitive dysfunction, anxiety and depressive episodes.

The factors affecting bone density in cirrhosis.

Background: Bone loss is common in cirrhosis. However, the prevalence of osteopenia and osteoporosis has been heterogeneous in different reports. Reduction in bone formation with or without increase in bone resorption appears to be responsible for bone loss in these patients.

Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies in ulcerative colitis, and its relation with disease activity.

Background: Ulcerative colitis an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and chronically idiopathic immune related that associates with extraintestinal manifestations such as arthritis. Despite of the highly specificity of anticyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibodies for rheumatoid arthritis, their role in IBD remains unclear. There are only a few studies on the prevalence of anti-CCP antibodies in patients with IBD.

Correlation of invalidation with symptom severity and health status in fibromyalgia.

Objective: Invalidation is a new construct in health psychology, especially in diseases with inherently invisible symptoms such as FM. It can potentially affect both the quality of life and disease severity in patients with FM. This study aimed to investigate the correlation of illness invalidation with health status and symptom severity in FM.

The validity and reliability of the Persian version of the Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire.

The Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR), an updated version of the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) achieved a better balance among different domains (i.e., function, overall impact, and symptom severity) and attempts to address the limitations of FIQ.

Clinical presentation and operative repair of Morgagni hernia.

Objectives: Morgagni hernia (MH) is an uncommon type of diaphragmatic hernia. This study aimed to summarize clinically relevant data with respect to MHs in adults.

Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of patients who underwent surgical repair of foramen due to MH at our hospitals between 1996 and 2010.

Pulmonary disease appears more commonly in younger individuals but bilateral pulmonary involvement is relatively rare. Concomitant pulmonary and liver hydatid disease may occur in 4% to 25% of patients with hydatidosis.
