KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae bloodstream isolates from Brazilian hospitals: What (still) remains active?

Objectives: This study assessed susceptibility to polymyxin B (PMB) and alternative antimicrobials, with focus on aminoglycosides and tigecycline, according to different breakpoints in KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC-Kp) bloodstream isolates from Brazilian hospitals.

Methods: Bloodstream K. pneumoniae isolates non-susceptible to any of the three carbapenems (meropenem, imipenem or ertapenem) from four Brazilian tertiary-care hospitals were selected.

Primary osteosarcoma of the breast (POB) is an extremely rare and aggressive tumor. Differential diagnosis of POB includes osteosarcoma of the chest wall and metaplastic breast carcinoma. Imaging tests that exclude the existence of a direct connection between the tumor and chest wall, as well as histopathological and immunohistochemical studies that rule out the presence of an epithelial component are required for the diagnosis of POB.

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus increases the risk of hypertriglyceridemia and is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Current literature reveals the beneficial effects of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) in hypertriglyceridemia treatment, however the safety for type 2 diabetic subjects are still debatable. This literature review discusses the safety on glucose metabolism of n-3 PUFA supplementation in the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Electrokinetic properties of wavellite and its floatability with cationic and anionic collectors.

The reverse apatite flotation with fatty acids has been widely used for the reduction of phosphorus content of magmatic origin iron ores. However, the occurrence of phosphorus intensely disseminated as secondary minerals such as wavellite renders the anionic reverse flotation a challenge. Zeta potential measurements and microflotation tests of wavellite with the use of anionic and cationic collectors were carried out in this work.
