Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a complex malignancy, displays varying expression profiles of PIP4K2-related genes in adult patients. While PIP4K2A expression is elevated in ALL bone marrow cells compared to healthy bone marrow cells, PIP4K2B is downregulated, and PIP4K2C remains relatively unchanged. Despite the correlation between increased PIP4K2A expression and increased percentage of peripheral blood blasts, clinical outcomes do not strongly correlate with the expression of these genes.

Aplastic anemia (AA) is a rare disorder characterized by suppression of bone marrow function, which can progress to myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). To determine if there are characteristics in bone marrow biopsies in children and adults previously diagnosed with acquired AA, which could predict progression to MDS, we evaluated 118 hypocellular bone marrow biopsies from adults (76 patients) and children (42) diagnosed initially with acquired AA previously to any treatment. Familial platelet disorder with propensity to acute myeloid leukemia (FPD/AML) associated with RUNX1 mutations is an autosomal dominant disorder included in the group of the myeloid neoplasms with germ line predisposition. We describe two brothers who were diagnosed with hematological malignancies (one with AML and the other with T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma). There was a history of leukemia in the paternal family and two of their siblings presented with low platelet counts and no history of significant bleeding.

Canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) is known to affect the cellular immunity of infected dogs, through impairing lymphoproliferation and microbicidal mechanisms. This study examined heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and its metabolites, oxidative stress and IL-10 levels in CVL and investigated correlations between these parameters. Purpose Of The Report: Although MRI is utilized for planning the resection of soft-tissue tumors, it is not always capable of differentiating benign from malignant lesions. The risk of local recurrence of soft-tissue sarcomas is increased when biopsies are performed before resection and by inadequate resections. PET associated with computed tomography using fluorodeoxyglucose labeled with fluorine-18 ((18)F-FDG PET/CT) may help differentiate between benign and malignant tumors, thus avoiding inadequate resections and making prior biopsies unnecessary.

Methods: A cross-sectional study with 48 women receiving follow-up care at a university hospital in Southeastern Brazil, from February 4th 2009 to January 5th 2011, was conducted.
