Chemotherapies remain standard therapy for cancers but have limited efficacy and cause significant side effects, highlighting the need for targeted approaches. In the progression of cancer, tumors increase matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity. Leveraging and therapeutically redirecting tumor MMPs through activatable cell-penetrating peptide (ACPP) technology offers new approaches for tumor-selective drug delivery and for studying how drug payloads engage the tumor immune microenvironment.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLyme disease (LD), or Lyme borreliosis, is a vector-borne disease that is caused by the transmission of the bacterium through a tick bite. The symptoms of LD can persist in individuals chronically, even after the treatment and resolution of the initial infection. These symptoms include various neuropsychiatric manifestations and cognitive decline.

Objective: To determine whether cognitive decline emerges with the onset of COVID-19 and whether it is more pronounced in patients with Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 or severe COVID-19.
Background: Variations in the fat mass and obesity-associated gene (FTO) are associated with obesity; however, it is unclear if changes in energy intake affect the adaptive response to caloric restriction in those with risk variants. The three FTO single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), rs1421085, rs17817449 and rs9939609, are in strong linkage disequilibrium. Thus, the purpose of this investigation was to determine the role of these FTO SNPs vis-à-vis the effects of a 4-week hypocaloric diet on body composition in exercise-trained men and women.
