Background: Long-gap esophageal atresia (LGEA) can complicate the management of esophageal atresia (EA) with or without a tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF). This series describes a short interval, staged, thoracoscopic internal traction approach for LGEA with distal TEF to manage complex anastomotic tension or an anatomically impossible esophageal anastomosis.

Methods: A retrospective review (2018-2024) was performed across four tertiary centers to identify patients with LGEA and distal TEF, managed with a staged, thoracoscopic internal traction approach.

A strategy toward the realization of a quantum spin processor involves the coupling of spin qubits and qudits to photons within superconducting resonators. To enable the realization of such hybrid architecture, here we first explore the design of a chip with multiple lumped-element LC superconducting resonators optimized for their coupling to distinct transitions of a vanadyl porphyrin electronuclear qudit. The controlled integration of the vanadyl qudit onto the superconducting device, both in terms of number and orientation, is then attained using the formation of nanosheets of a 2D framework built on the vanadyl qudit as a node.

Unlabelled: Cell biology and genetic analysis of intracellular, intercellular and inter-organ interaction studies in animal models are key for understanding development, physiology, and disease. The MARCM technique can emulate tumor development by simultaneous clonal tumor suppressor loss-of-function generation coupled with GAL4-UAS-driven oncogene and marker expression, but the utility is limited for studying tumor-host interactions due to genetic constraints. To overcome this, we introduce EyaHOST, a novel system that replaces MARCM with the QF2-QUAS binary gene expression system under the promoter control, unleashing the fly community genome-wide GAL4-UAS driven tools to manipulate any host cells or tissue at scale.

Lack of reproducibility hampers molecular devices integration into large-scale circuits. Thus, incorporating operando characterization can facilitate the understanding of multiple features producing disparities in different devices. In this work, we report the realization of hybrid molecular graphene field effect transistors (m-GFETs) based on 11-(Ferrocenyl)undecanethiol (FcCSH) micro self-assembled monolayers (μSAMs) and high-quality graphene (Gr) in a back-gated configuration.

Conservation of gene neighbourhood over evolutionary distances is generally indicative of shared regulation or functional association among genes. This concept has been broadly exploited in prokaryotes but its use on eukaryotic genomes has been limited to specific functional classes, such as biosynthetic gene clusters. We here used an evolutionary-based gene cluster discovery algorithm (EvolClust) to pre-compute evolutionarily conserved gene neighbourhoods, which can be searched, browsed and downloaded in EvolClustDB.

The Drosophila brain is a frequently used model in neuroscience. Single-cell transcriptome analysis, three-dimensional morphological classification and electron microscopy mapping of the connectome have revealed an immense diversity of neuronal and glial cell types that underlie an array of functional and behavioural traits in the fly. The identities of these cell types are controlled by gene regulatory networks (GRNs), involving combinations of transcription factors that bind to genomic enhancers to regulate their target genes.

Background/aims: To identify objective glaucoma-related structural features based on peripapillary (p) and macular (m) spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) parameters and assess their discriminative ability between healthy and glaucoma patients.

Methods: Two hundred and sixty eyes (91 controls and 169 glaucoma) were included in this prospective study. After a complete examination, all participants underwent the posterior pole and the peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer (pRNFL) protocols of the Spectralis SD-OCT.

Sexual violence against women is an ongoing social problem that carries serious social and health implications. Although a large body of empirical literature has documented the detrimental effects of sexual violence on women's mental health, the great majority of this work is devoid of considering the unique cultural experiences of women of color (WOC). WOC report disparate rates of sexual violence, coupled with racially biased treatment from providers and law enforcement following an assault, that make them especially vulnerable to mental health challenges.

A 496 L pilot scale anaerobic submerged membrane bioreactor (AnSMBR) for the treatment of municipal wastewater was evaluated during a year of stable operation at ambient (28-10 °C) temperature, and inoculated with mesophilic inoculum. The temperature was the main parameter affecting the process performance. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the effluent was around 150 mg O/L in the summer period, operating with a volumetric loading rate (VLR) of 5 kg COD/m d and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 8-10 h, with a specific methane production between 0.

Child malnutrition is an important public health problem in Argentina, both as a primary cause of mortality/morbidity and associated with different pathologies that affect children. However, little is known about its magnitude, trends and spatial distribution. This article seeks to detect such situations considering different geographic scales.

Introduction: The buttonhole (BH) puncture technique for arteriovenous fistulas is an alternative to the classical staggered puncture.

Purpose: We present 3years' results incorporating the BH puncture technique for arteriovenous fistulas in our dialysis unit.

Material And Methods: Twenty-two patients were started on BH technique, 15 men and 7 women (mean age: 62 years; SD: 12), with time spent on dialysis when starting the BH technique of 34 months (SD: 34, median: 27, range: 3-136).

To date, descriptions of pathologic conditions of the seminal vesicle in rabbits are scarce and limited to the laboratory animals in experimental conditions. The present article describes three cases of strangury, abdominal pain, and anorexia associated with seminal vesiculitis in pet rabbits. Three non-neutered male pet rabbits aged 3.

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a prominent human pathogen responsible for many severe diseases and the leading cause of childhood mortality worldwide. The pneumococcus is remarkably adept at colonizing and infecting different niches in the human body, and its adaptation to dynamic host environment is a central aspect of its pathogenesis. In the last decade, increasing findings have evidenced small RNAs (sRNAs) as vital regulators in a number of important processes in bacteria.

To develop a full understanding of interactions in nanomagnet arrays is a persistent challenge, critically impacting their technological acceptance. This paper reports the experimental, numerical and analytical investigation of interactions in arrays of Co nanoellipses using the first-order reversal curve (FORC) technique. A mean-field analysis has revealed the physical mechanisms giving rise to all of the observed features: a shift of the non-interacting FORC-ridge at the low-HC end off the local coercivity HC axis; a stretch of the FORC-ridge at the high-HC end without shifting it off the HC axis; and a formation of a tilted edge connected to the ridge at the low-HC end.

We describe a case of multiple peritoneal nodules with cysts at the free border of the omento and other locations of the peritoneal surfaces. A total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingooophorectomy were performed for a myomatous uterus and bilateral ovarian cysts. The omentum and several fragments of the abdominal peritoneum were also removed.

This study describes the application of a multilocus sequence typing (MLST) analysis for molecular discrimination at the strain level of Spanish wine yeast strains. The discrimination power of MLST is compared to mitochondrial RFLP analysis. Fragments of the ADP1, ACC1, RPN2, GLN4, and ALA1 genes were amplified by PCR from chromosomal DNA of 18 wine Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains.

A Lactobacillus plantarum strain, CECT 4645, was found to have insertions of a sequence (985 bp in length) at least in eight loci in its genome. The prototype copy (Lp1) of this insertion sequence (named ISLpl4) has one open reading frame encoding a putative protein that is 292 amino acids in length with significant levels of similarity with IS982 family transposases. Perfect 16-bp inverted repeats were found at its termini.
