Preconsultation compassion video to reduce anxiety among patients referred to a cancer centre: a randomised control trial.

Objective: Anxiety is common among patients attending an initial oncology consultation. The objective of this trial was to test if an enhanced compassion video emailed to patients prior to their initial oncology consultation reduces anxiety compared with being sent an information-only introduction video.

Methods And Analysis: We conducted a randomised control trial at a single university-based cancer centre between May 2021 and October 2023.

Efficacy of vorinostat in a murine model of polycythemia vera.

The discovery of the JAK2V617F mutation in most patients with Ph-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms has led to the development of JAK2 kinase inhibitors. However, JAK2 inhibitor therapy has shown limited efficacy and dose-limiting hematopoietic toxicities in clinical trials. In the present study, we describe the effects of vorinostat, a small-molecule inhibitor of histone deacetylase, against cells expressing JAK2V617F and in an animal model of polycythemia vera (PV).

Acute leukemia associated with valproic acid treatment: a novel mechanism for leukemogenesis?

Valproic acid has been previously associated with hematologic toxicity, including a reversible myelodysplasia-like syndrome without chromosomal abnormalities. We now report three cases of acute leukemia with features of secondary leukemia associated with valproic acid therapy: two cases of acute myelogenous leukemia with multilineage dysplasia, one with trisomy 8 and one with monosomy 7, and one case of secondary acute lymphoblastic leukemia with del (7) (q22q34), del (9) (q21.11q22), del (11) (q12q23).
