Radiomics in radiology: What the radiologist needs to know about technical aspects and clinical impact.

Radiomics represents the science of extracting and analyzing a multitude of quantitative features from medical imaging, revealing the quantitative potential of radiologic images. This scientific review aims to provide radiologists with a comprehensive understanding of radiomics, emphasizing its principles, applications, challenges, limits, and prospects. The limitations of standardization in current scientific production are analyzed, along with possible solutions proposed by some of the referenced papers.

SIRM-SIN-AIOM: appropriateness criteria for evaluation and prevention of renal damage in the patient undergoing contrast medium examinations-consensus statements from Italian College of Radiology (SIRM), Italian College of Nephrology (SIN) and Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM).

The increasing number of examinations and interventional radiological procedures that require the administration of contrast medium (CM) in patients at risk for advanced age and/or comorbidities highlights the problem of CM-induced renal toxicity. A multidisciplinary group consisting of specialists of different disciplines-radiologists, nephrologists and oncologists, members of the respective Italian Scientific Societies-agreed to draw up this position paper, to assist clinicians increasingly facing the challenges posed by CM-related renal dysfunction in their daily clinical practice.The major risk factor for acute renal failure following CM administration (post-CM AKI) is the preexistence of renal failure, particularly when associated with diabetes, heart failure or cancer.

Breast imaging screening in a BRCA1-mutated lactating patient: A potential pitfall mimicking malignancy.

Breast imaging screening during lactation poses a real clinical challenge, especially in high-risk patients. We presented the case of a 34-year-old BRCA1-mutated woman showing marked, asymmetric background parenchymal enhancement on the right breast suspicious for malignancy in the context of annual screening magnetic resonance imaging. The patient revealed that she was still occasionally breastfeeding her two-year-old child only from right side.

Postsurgical Ultrasound Evaluation of Patients with Prosthesis in Acellular Dermal Matrix: Results from Monocentric Experience.

Mastectomy and breast prosthetic reconstruction is the most common surgical treatment for women diagnosed with breast cancer. In the last few years, breast prosthetic augmentation in acellular dermal matrix (ADM) has been introduced. The aim of this study is to present our single-center experience in evaluating the outcome of patients who underwent breast reconstruction in ADM, using ultrasound (US) examination.

Diffuse-primary-B-cell lymphoma of the cranial vault presenting as stroke.

A rare case of diffuse-primary-B-cell lymphoma was misdiagnosed on emergency computed tomography because of blurred findings and a sclerotic appearance of the right parietal bone. In spite of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging provided a higher diagnostic yield, revealing more extensive diploic alterations and indicating the involvement of all of the cranial vault compartments. Therefore, a histologic examination of the surgical specimen was conducted to reach a conclusive diagnosis.

Comparative US-MRI evaluation of the Insall-Salvati index.

Purpose: To investigate whether the universally accepted range of normal patellar height ratio derived from MRI for the Insall-Salvati (IS) method could be similarly applied to ultrasound (US).

Materials And Methods: This study included 52 patients (age range 11-75 years) who underwent a bi-modality (US and MRI) examination, with a total of 60 knees evaluated. IS index (ratio of the patella tendon length to length of the patella) was acquired with both methods.
