Clinical Efficacy of Combined Probiotics and Immunotherapy in Childhood Allergic Rhinitis.

Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) is considered a safe and beneficial treatment for allergic rhinitis (AR). Probiotics are unusual treatment options for AR and have lately created great concern in the scientific community. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of combined probiotics plus SLIT on nasal symptoms in AR children.

Activated PI3K-delta syndrome in an Egyptian pediatric cohort with primary immune deficiency.

Background: Activated Phospho-Inositide 3 (PI3) Kinases Delta syndrome (APDS) can underlie primary immune deficiency. The prevalence and phenotypic characterization of these patients are not well described in Egypt.

Objectives: To describe patients with APDS in hospitalized children with recurrent respiratory tract infections with suspected primary immune deficiency.

Diagnostic performance of direct latex agglutination, post-enrichment latex agglutination and culture methods in screening of group B streptococci in late pregnancy: a comparative study.

Background: Group B streptococcus (GBS) is one of the main causes of neonatal sepsis.

Purpose: Evaluation of the diagnostic performance of direct latex agglutination test (DLA), post-enrichment latex agglutination (LA) test, and direct culture on chromogenic media in rapid identification of GBS carrier in pregnant women in comparison with the conventional post-enrichment CDC-recommended culture method and further to estimate GBS carriage prevalence and its antimicrobial susceptibility.

Methods: Two hundred pregnant women at gestational age (35-37 weeks) were enrolled.

Role of maternal serum interleukin 17 in preeclampsia: diagnosis and prognosis.

Background: Immunological factors play a unique role in the setting of preeclampsia; there is a rising debate about the performance of interleukin 17 (IL-17) as inflammatory mediator in its pathogenesis. The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the significance of IL-17 in the diagnosis and prognosis of preeclampsia and estimate a cutoff value for better prediction.

Methods: A prospective case control study, 40 patient were enrolled in the study, two groups were designed: a normotensive (control) group (n=20) and preeclampsia group (n=20).

Evaluation of Soluble HLA-G Serum Level as Diagnostic Biomarker in Allergic Rhinitis Patients and its Association with Specific IgE Levels.

About 30 % of people are affected by allergic rhinitis (AR). Allergic rhinitis is an inflammatory condition defined by a disturbance of immunoregulation generating an amplified T helper "Th-2" response. An inflammatory mechanism mediated by HLA-G is thought to be involved through initiation of Th2 cytokine profile releasing "interleukin IL-3, IL-4, and IL-10".

The Role of the Level of Interleukin-33 in the Therapeutic Outcomes of Immunotherapy in Patients with Allergic Rhinitis.

 Allergic rhinitis (AR) affects up to 40% of the population and results in nasal itching, congestion, sneezing, and clear rhinorrhea.  This study aimed to evaluate the changes in the clinical symptoms and in the level of serum interleukin (IL)-33 before and after pollen immunotherapy (IT) in patients with AR.  The total symptom score and the levels of total immunoglobulin E (IgE) and IL-33 were determined in the serum of 10 non-allergic healthy controls and 45 patients with AR who were equally divided into 3 groups: GI (patients did not receive IT), GII (patients had received IT for 6 months) and GIII (patients had received IT for 2 years).
