Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is one of the most common causes of infection from the herpes virus family which also possesses oncogenic potential. EBV-associated smooth muscle tumors (EBV-SMT) are often found in the CNS but here we present the case of a 50-year-old woman with EBV-SMT in the liver. This patient had a kidney transplant in 2009 and had been undergoing immunosuppressive therapy to support her transplant.

The IRT-CUR-NTs were statistically optimized and loaded into poloxamer-based thermosensitive gel. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) of the IRT-CUR-NTs were performed, whereas pH, gelation time, gelation temperature, gel and mucoadhesive strength of the IRT-CUR-NTG were investigated.

Rarely, it can be associated with consumptive coagulopathy due to disseminated intravascular coagulation eventually leading to thrombocytopenia and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia. This specific manifestation is termed Kasabach-Merritt syndrome.

For a comprehensive understanding of cellular functions, identifying the whole protein content, or proteome, of a cell is desirable but challenging. Here, we describe in detail two methods of proteome fractionation at either the protein (SDS-PAGE) or peptide (high-pH reversed-phase fractionation) level, which can be used to maximize the identification of proteins from complex biological samples.

RBL2 dysfunction has been linked to a severe neurodevelopmental disorder. However, to date, clinical features have only been described in six individuals carrying five biallelic predicted loss of function (pLOF) variants.

The effectiveness of an automated text messaging system as a tool to monitor postoperative opioid use and pain outcomes and inform guideline development and deployment is also evaluated.
Methods: The authors conducted a prospective study of postoperative opioid use behaviors and patient-reported outcomes for 2101 elective spine surgery cases between December 2018 and March 2022, prior to and following the implementation of opioid-prescribing guidelines in February 2021 at three urban hospital sites within a large academic health system.
Physiotherapy has significantly evolved since its inception in the late 19th century, expanding into various specializations such as sports, neurology, and wound care. Its primary goal is to restore or enhance bodily functions through therapeutic interventions, aiding in conditions ranging from injuries to chronic pain. Tissue recovery, which involves repair and regeneration, is a critical aspect of physiotherapy.

Cloud computing lessens the energy consumption of user equipment, but it increases the latency of the system. Whereas edge computing reduces the latency along with the energy consumption, it has limited resources and cannot process bigger tasks.

Amylases hydrolyze the α-1,4-glycosidic linkages in starch polymers to generate maltose and malto-oligosaccharides subunits. Amylases are key enzymes that have promising applications in various industrial processes ranging from pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, textile food industries to bioremediation and biofuel sectors.

Background: Surgeons specifically junior ones in our setup of third world country face the issue of diagnosing Acute Appendicitis (AA) as presentation usually is not typical. Cases presenting at odd hours may put residents & house officers in trouble, when sophisticated investigations are either un-available or expansive. Need for a structured diagnostic criterion is thus always there.

Whereas stable Jefferson burst fractures can be treated nonoperatively, unstable fractures with disruption of the transverse ligament often require surgical intervention. Atlas osteosynthesis has been proposed as a motion-preserving alternative to atlantoaxial fusion.

Objective: Neurosurgical operations, including spine surgeries, often occur outside "normal business hours" due to the urgent or emergent nature of cases. This study investigates the association of surgical start time (SST) with spine surgery outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed using electronic health record data from a multi-hospital academic health system from 2017 to 2024.
Availability of fresh water for domestic, industrial, and agricultural use has become a huge challenge in different parts of the world due to continuous contamination. The leaching of different pesticides in agricultural lands is one of the major sources of water contamination that needs to be monitored and countered. The current study was designed to synthesize specific material for the removal of pesticides from aqueous medium.

The PILs were synthesized by the reaction of pyridine base with an acid, HSO, under solventless conditions, and confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy and 1H NMR spectra. The appearance vibration bands in the 3095-3252 cm range for -NH stretching in the FTIR spectra and a peak at a chemical shift of 8.

The aim was to apply smartphone technology to evaluate AD severity; to explore if severity based on highly frequent sampling of photographs are associated with patient reported outcomes, and to investigate disease fluctuations and trigger associations based on passively collected environmental data. Methods In this 12-week decentralized observational study adult patients with AD were recruited online and used a tailored remote clinical trial platform app to perform all study tasks including capturing photographs and completing the patient-oriented eczema measure (POEM) weekly.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study analyzed data from the Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD) to investigate trends in EVT utilization, outcomes, and the relationship between hospital procedural volume and inpatient mortality for AIS admissions between 2016-2020. Patients undergoing EVT were identified using ICD-10 procedure codes.

There are two main approaches to address this challenge: transitioning to a triple OHA regimen, or adding Insulin to the existing dual OHA regimen.
Aim: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of adding Insulin to dual OHAs (Sitagliptin + Metformin) against adding a third OHA to Sitagliptin + Metformin in achieving glycemic control among patients with uncontrolled T2DM.
Background: Sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) are a novel class of oral antidiabetic drugs (ADDs). Studies evaluating the appropriateness of SGLT2is prescribing, and the factors associated with their initiation in the Middle East region are lacking.
Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the appropriateness of prescribing SGLT2is based on indication, dosing, and contraindication and determine the factors associated with their initial prescribing.
Present study identified metal accumulation potential, biochemical, growth, and human health risk attributes of wheat varieties (Zincol-16, NARC-09, NARC-11, Pakistan-13, Borlaug-16) cultivated in sewage sludge amended soils, that is, 80% soil + 20% sludge (C), 90% soil + 10% sludge (B) and 100% soil (control, A). Metal accumulation significantly varied ( < 0.05) among wheat varieties and the accretion pattern was roots > straw > grains.
