In March 2020, when the COVID-19 outbreak was classified as a pandemic, authorities announced measures to control its spread, including hand washing, quarantine, social distancing and lockdowns. The disease spreads rapidly and has potentially serious complications, and adherence to the recommendations was strongly encouraged.
