Background: Adults with spinal deformity (ASD) are known to have spinal malalignment, which can impact their quality of life and their autonomy in daily life activities. Among these tasks, ascending and descending stairs is a common activity of daily life that might be affected.

Research Question: What are the main kinematic alterations in ASD during stair ascent and descent?

Methods: 112 primary ASD patients and 34 controls filled HRQoL questionnaires and underwent biplanar X-from which spino-pelvic radiographic parameters were calculated.

Functional assessment is a key element in evaluating adult spinal deformity (ASD) patients. The multitude of 3D kinematic parameters provided by movement analysis can be confusing for spine surgeons. The aim was to investigate movement patterns of ASD based on key kinematic parameters.

Background: The treatment of acute lower limb ischemia (ALLI) has evolved over the last several decades with the availability of several new treatment modalities. This study was undertaken to evaluate the contemporary presentation and outcomes of ALLI patients.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from a prospectively collected database of all patients who presented to our tertiary referral hospital with acute ischemia of the lower extremity between May 2016 and October 2020.

Introduction: Radiographic analysis is necessary for the assessment and the surgical planning in adults with spinal deformity (ASD). Restoration of global alignment is key to improving patient's quality of life. However, the large number of existing global alignment parameters can be confusing for surgeons.

Purpose: To investigate kinematic adaptations from self-selected to fast speed walking in ASD patients.

Methods: 115 primary ASD and 66 controls underwent biplanar radiographic X-rays and 3D gait analysis to calculate trunk, segmental spine and lower limb kinematics during self-selected and fast speed walking. Kinematic adaptation was calculated as the difference (Δ) between fast and self-selected speed walking.

Introduction: Adult spinal deformity (ASD) is classically evaluated by health-related quality of life (HRQoL) questionnaires and static radiographic spino-pelvic and global alignment parameters. Recently, 3D movement analysis (3DMA) was used for functional assessment of ASD to objectively quantify patient's independence during daily life activities. The aim of this study was to determine the role of both static and functional assessments in the prediction of HRQoL outcomes using machine learning methods.

Background: The incidence of compartment syndrome in patients with acute lower limb ischemia (ALLI) and the effects of fasciotomy on outcomes are largely undefined. This study aimed to define the incidence of compartment syndrome in patients with ALLI and to examine whether different fasciotomy strategies are associated with specific patient outcomes.

Methods: A single-center retrospective study of patients who had ALLI between April 2016 and October 2020 at a tertiary care center.

Purpose: Preoperative anemia is associated with adverse outcomes after cardiac and noncardiac surgeries, but outcomes after an endovascular peripheral vascular intervention (PVI) are not well established. We aimed to assess the association of preoperative anemia with 30 day death, hospital length of stay (LOS), and overall (long term) survival in patients undergoing an endovascular PVI for peripheral artery disease.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective, cohort study in the United States and Canada, we queried the national Vascular Quality Initiative database for all endovascular PVIs performed between 2010 and 2019, and outcomes were correlated with patients' hemoglobin (Hb) levels.

Objective: To investigate the incidence and characteristics of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in kidney transplantation recipients and analyze whether the anatomical side of DVT was associated with the side of the transplanted organ.

Methods: A single-center retrospective medical record review of patients who received a kidney transplant between January 2004 and July 2019 and who subsequently developed DVT. Only patients who received unilateral kidney transplants were included in the study.

Objective: The occurrence of acute lower limb ischemia (ALLI) is a serious risk within the context of aortic dissection repair. The aim of the present study was to examine the outcomes of patients with acute type A aortic dissection (ATAD) and concomitant lower extremity malperfusion.

Methods: We performed a retrospective medical record review at our tertiary referral center of patients who underwent ATAD repair from January 2002 to June 2018.

Objectives: By analyzing national Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) data for patients undergoing open infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) repair, we sought to better characterize the effects of different suprarenal clamping positions on postoperative outcomes.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected national VQI database for all open infrarenal AAA repairs performed between 2003 and 2017. Patients were initially divided into proximal (above 1 renal, above 2 renals, and supraceliac) and infrarenal clamp groups.

Purpose: To evaluate the global alignment of non-operated subjects with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Method: A total of 254 subjects with AIS and 64 controls underwent low dose biplanar X-rays and had their spine, pelvis, and rib cage reconstructed in 3D. Global alignment was measured in the sagittal and frontal planes by calculating the OD-HA angle (between C2 dens to hip axis with the vertical).

Objectives: The association between socioeconomic status (SES) and chronic venous insufficiency has not been rigorously studied. This study aimed to determine the influence of SES on the clinical stage of patients presenting for chronic venous disease therapy.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study of a prospectively collected data from the Vascular Quality Initiative Varicose Vein Registry at our tertiary referral center.

The ideal engineered vascular graft would utilize human-derived materials to minimize foreign body response and tissue rejection. Current biological engineered blood vessels (BEBVs) inherently lack the structure required for implantation. We hypothesized that an ECM material would provide the structure needed.

Background: We sought to determine the knowledge of, perception, attitudes, and behaviors toward influenza virus and immunization, and the determinants of vaccination among students, patients, and Healthcare Workers (HCWs) at the American University of Beirut and its affiliated Medical Center.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study between October 2016 and January 2017 utilizing a self-administered questionnaire that was provided to 247 randomly selected adult participants. Data collected included socio-demographic characteristics, prior vaccination against influenza, knowledge, perception, attitudes, and behaviors toward influenza and influenza immunization.

Background: The infectious complications in hemodialysis patients are still among the main reasons for their increased morbidity and mortality. The possible reasons behind this might be due to impairments in the host defense mechanisms, comorbidities, invasive procedures and pathogenicity of the infecting organisms. With the increased incidence of bacteremia in hemodialysis patients and the overt use of antibiotics, we have witnessed a rise in the number of new multidrug resistant (MDR) strains in those patients.
