Impact of Climate Change on Adolescents' Health Outcomes: An Evidence Gap Map Review.

Background: The evolving impact of climate change on adolescents' health is a pressing global concern. Climate change's effects on their physical, mental, and social well-being worsen unique developmental challenges for adolescents. This study aims to map existing evidence, identify gaps, and highlight research and intervention needs.

Self-diagnosis and self-medication based on internet search among Non-Medical University students of Karachi.

Background: For a decade, the topic of self-diagnosis and self-medication has gained significant attention due to the widespread availability of information on the internet and over-the-counter medication. This research explores the rational considerations behind individuals' self-diagnosis and self-medication practices. Our main objective is to find out the frequency of self-diagnosis and self-medication in the general population and its associated risks and benefits.

'Hidden' work and lost opportunities: nursing research and impact case studies submitted to REF2021.

Aims: (1) Identify and characterise the nursing contribution to impact case studies submitted to Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 across all Units of Assessment and compare this to those submitted to REF 2014; (2) Identify and characterise those impact case studies of relevance to nursing that did not include a nurse in the research team; (3) Compare the characteristics of impact case studies identified in Aim 2 with those that did include a nurse in the research team.

Design: Desk-based analysis of REF2021 published data.

Methods: We searched the REF2021 impact database with the term nurs* then sorted case studies into categories representing the involvement of nurses on the research team.

Smaller cingulate grey matter mediates the association between dual-task gait and incident dementia.

Individuals with mild cognitive impairment that have high dual-task gait cost (≥20% slowing in gait speed while performing a cognitive brain demanding task), are three-fold more likely to progress to dementia. However, the cortical regions that may explain this association are unknown, which may identify potentially treatable areas. The aim of the current study is to investigate whether brain grey matter volume loss and motor cortex metabolite levels explain the association between dual-task cost and incident dementia in individuals with mild cognitive impairment.

Muslim Women's Experiences of Domestic Violence and Abuse: A Meta-Ethnography of Global Evidence.

Domestic violence and abuse (DVA) is a form of interpersonal violence perpetrated by intimate partners or family members. It includes physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and economic abuse, as well as coercive and controlling behaviors. DVA is associated with severe physical, psychological, social, and economic consequences for the victims.

Bridging the gap: financing health promotion and disease prevention in Indonesia.

Background: Spending on preventive care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Indonesia, is much lower than spending on curative care. There has been a pressing need to develop a clear pathway to increase spending on preventive care. This study aimed to assess the current financing landscape for health promotion and disease prevention in Indonesia and, subsequently, to develop a framework and recommendations for future health promotion financing in the country.

Women's Experiences of Intimate and Sexual Relationships During Menopause: A Qualitative Synthesis.

Aim: The aim of this literature review was to explore women's experiences of their intimate and sexual relationships during menopause.

Background: Evidence shows that the menopause transition can be a difficult time for women due to symptoms of menopause. There is little research evidence about how menopause-related symptoms impact women's intimate and sexual relationships.

Toward Quantitative Neurology: Sensors to Assess Motor Deficits in Dementia.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder which primarily involves memory and cognitive functions. It is increasingly recognized that motor involvement is also a common and significant aspect of AD, contributing to functional decline and profoundly impacting quality of life. Motor impairment, either at early or later stages of cognitive disorders, can be considered as a proxy measure of cognitive impairment, and technological devices can provide objective measures for both diagnosis and prognosis purposes.

Modulating pro-fibrotic macrophages using yeast beta-glucan microparticles prepared by Pressurized Gas eXpanded liquid (PGX) Technology®.

Pro-fibrotic M2-like macrophages are widely implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of lung fibrosis due to their production of pro-fibrotic growth factors and cytokines. Yeast beta-glucan (YBG) microparticles have shown potential as immunomodulators that can convert macrophage polarization from a pro-fibrotic phenotype to an anti-fibrotic phenotype through the engagement of the Dectin-1 receptor. However, the processing conditions used to fabricate YBG microparticles can lead to unpredictable immunomodulatory effects.

Responding to Domestic Violence and Abuse during COVID-19 through Remote Interventions: An Evaluation of the Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (IRIS) Service.

To explore the perspectives of patients/service users receiving specialist domestic violence and abuse (DVA) support from the Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (IRIS) service during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. A qualitative approach was used to conduct this study. Thematic analysis of data collected via in-depth individual interviews with 11 patients/service users who received DVA support following their disclosure of abuse to a health-care professional in general practice (GP) and subsequent referral to the IRIS service.

Gait performance in older adults across the cognitive spectrum: Results from the GAIT cohort.

Background: Gait performance can provide valuable insights into cognitive functioning in older adult and may be used to screen for cognitive impairment. However, the optimal test condition and spatiotemporal parameter for accuracy have not yet been determined. This study aims to determine the gait measure with the highest accuracy identifying cognitive decline.

Impact of climate change on maternal health outcomes: An evidence gap map review.

Climate change poses unique challenges to maternal well-being and increases complications during pregnancy and childbirth globally. This evidence gap map (EGM) aims to identify gaps in existing knowledge and areas where further research related to climate change and its impact on maternal health is required. The following databases were searched individually from inception to present: Medline, EMBASE, and Global Health via OVID; Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) via EBSCOhost; Scopus; and organizational websites.

Child Sexual Abuse in Nigeria: A Systematic Review.

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a major social and public health issue that creates short- and long-lasting impacts on victims, families, and society. While global researchers have considered the topic of CSA since the 19th century, the Nigerian context has been largely ignored. Yet, without sufficient evidence and understanding, making changes to practices and policies becomes almost impossible.

A Rare Case of a Giant Choledochal Cyst in a Caribbean Infant.

Choledochal cysts are uncommon dilatations of the biliary tree. Giant choledochal cysts are those that exceed a maximum diameter of 10cm. Our case describes a female infant who presented to our paediatric surgery department with a three-day history of vomiting, abdominal distention, pale stool, and irritability.

Selective Alteration of the Left Arcuate Fasciculus in Two Patients Affected by Creatine Transporter Deficiency.

(1) Background: In hereditary creatine transporter deficiency (CTD), there is an absence of creatine in the brain and neurological symptoms are present, including severe language impairment. However, the pathological changes caused by creatine deficiency that generate neuropsychological symptoms have been poorly studied. (2) Aims: To investigate if the language impairment in CTD is underpinned by possible pathological changes.

Applying intersectionality to address inequalities in nursing education.

Aim: The aim of this paper is to discuss the significance of the intersectionality framework for addressing prejudices, racism and inequalities in nursing education and clinical learning environments.

Background: Discrimination and racism against nursing students and educators based on their gender, ethnicity, race and social identities is well-documented in the nursing literature. Despite documented discrimination and incivility based on intersectional factors, it is reported that often nurse educators show limited interest in the culture, diverse experiences and values of nursing students with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Judicial Actors' Understanding of the Mental Health Impacts of Intimate Partner Violence: A Scoping Review.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a global public health issue that has grave physical and mental health consequences for millions of women. The judicial system plays a critical role in responding to IPV principally through the criminal justice system, family law, and/or child welfare jurisdictions. However, victims/survivors who interact with the legal system report negative experiences.

Cognitive impairment assessment through handwriting (COGITAT) score: a novel tool that predicts cognitive state from handwriting for forensic and clinical applications.

Introduction: Handwriting deteriorates proportionally to the writer's cognitive state. Such knowledge is of special importance in the case of a contested will, where dementia of the testator is claimed, but medical records are often insufficient to decide what the testator's cognitive state really was. By contrast, if the will is handwritten, handwriting analysis allows us to gauge the testator's cognitive state at the precise moment when he/she was writing the will.

This paper considers an output feedback consensus control approach for the generic linear multi-agent systems (MASs) under input saturation over a directed graph. A region of stability-based approach has been established for dealing with the input saturation. A conventional Luenberger observer for estimating the states of followers by themselves and an advanced cooperative observer for estimating the state of leader by followers have been applied for an estimated state feedback control.

Attachment networks in young adults.

Introduction: This study investigated attachment networks in a sample of Italian young adults. Attachment networks were defined in terms of attachment functions, attachment strength, the presence of a primary figure, and full-blown attachments.

Method: Participants were 405 young adults, and we studied the effects of the demographic variables of gender, romantic status (whether single, involved in a romantic relationship for less or more than 24 months) and employment (whether university students or workers) on the structure of attachment networks.

Pre-Operative Malnutrition in Patients with Ovarian Cancer: What Are the Clinical Implications? Results of a Prospective Study.
