Predictive value of PSA density in the diagnosis of prostate cancer in lebanese men.

Objective: Being the second most common cancer in men, prostate cancer detection relies on laboratory tests, imaging, and surgical procedures, although biopsy remains the mainstay in diagnosis of prostate cancer. No clear cut-off of prostate specific antigen density (PSAD) for suspecting prostate cancer has been established in the Lebanese population. Our primary objective was to evaluate the diagnostic strength of the PSAD value versus total prostate specific antigen (tPSA) level in the Lebanese men in correlation with biopsy outcome to avoid unnecessary prostate biopsy.

Expansion of a primary spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage (PSICH) has become lately of increasing interest, especially after the emergence of its early predictors. However, these signs lacked sensitivity and specificity. The flood phenomenon, defined as a drastic increase in the size of a PSICH during the same magnetic resonance study, was first described in this paper based on the data of a university medical center in Lebanon.

Buckling-Mediated Phase Transitions in Nano-Electromechanical Phononic Waveguides.

Waveguides for mechanical signal transmission in the megahertz to gigahertz regimes enable on-chip phononic circuitry, which brings new capabilities complementing photonics and electronics. Lattices of coupled nano-electromechanical drumhead resonators are suitable for these waveguides due to their high Q-factor and precisely engineered band structure. Here, we show that thermally induced elastic buckling of such resonators causes a phase transition in the waveguide leading to reversible control of signal transmission.

What Radiologist Should Know about MRI Translational Forces and Hazard: An Ex-Vivo Simulation of Retained Metallic Shrapnel.

Background: In a country immersed in endless rounds of wars, retained metallic foreign bodies remain a significant dilemma in the daily practice of every Lebanese radiologist. When a shrapnel's hazard is of concern, the decision between performing or refusing a justified MRI exam is not always straightforward. In this small trial, we aimed to better understand the shrapnel's MRI safety by mimicking our daily practice.

Palbociclib safety and efficacy beyond Ribociclib-induced liver toxicity in metastatic hormone-receptors positive breast cancer patient.

CDK4/6 inhibitors in association with aromatase inhibitors have led to a paradigm shift in the management of metastatic positive hormone-receptors breast cancer. Liver toxicity is common with these agents, but no data are reported on the sequential use of these CDK4/6 inhibitors in case of confirmed efficacy and intolerable toxicity. In this article, we report the successful use of Palbociclib in a metastatic positive hormone-receptors breast cancer patient after initial response to Ribociclib, which was interrupted for grade 4 liver toxicity.

Lymphoepithelioma-Like Carcinoma of the Breast: A Case Report Unveiling Several Clinical and Histopathological Challenges.

Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) of the breast is an extremely rare tumor type. Histologically, it mimics undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma by demonstrating nests of neoplastic epithelial cells in a background of lymphoplasmacytic infiltrates. Unusual appearance of a cerebral hydatid cyst as a hemorrhagic infarct.

We herein present a 32-year-old Lebanese woman with a history of cardiac hydatid cyst presenting with headache, confusion, and right arm clumsiness. A CT of the head showed hemorrhagic infarct of the left fronto-parietal lobe. Eleven months later, the subsequent development of hydatid cysts within the necrotic area of the infracted hemisphere suggested a cerebral hydatid embolism of cardiac origin.

The authors report four patients suffering from multicentric intraparenchymatous malignant glioma lesions located in different regions of the brain. The incidence of multiple, separated, independent, non-connected neuroepithelial tumors in the same patient is rare, although a discrepancy exists in the literature with regard to its real incidence. There is also controversy with respect to the histological composition of these tumors.
