Naringin, a flavanone glycoside found abundantly in citrus fruits, is well-known for its various pharmacological properties, particularly its significant anticancer effects. Research, both in vitro and in vivo, has shown that naringin is effective against several types of cancer, including liver, breast, thyroid, prostate, colon, bladder, cervical, lung, ovarian, brain, melanoma, and leukemia. Its anticancer properties are mediated through multiple mechanisms, such as apoptosis induction, inhibition of cell proliferation, cell cycle arrest, and suppression of angiogenesis, metastasis, and invasion, all while exhibiting minimal toxicity and adverse effects.

Mapping the Health and Medical Research Excellence in Nepal: A Study of High-Cited Papers During 1994-2023.

Background: A bibliometric analysis was performed to map the current status and development trends in medical research in Nepal. It aims to visualize research hotspots within this field and provide effective guidance for future research directions.

Methods: A systematic search of the Scopus database was performed to identify high-cited papers (HCPs) on medical research in Nepal between January 1, 1994, and December 31, 2023.

Learned-SBL-GAMP based hybrid precoders/combiners in millimeter wave massive MIMO systems.

In Millimeter-Wave (mm-Wave) massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems, hybrid precoders/combiners must be designed to improve antenna gain and reduce hardware complexity. Sparse Bayesian learning via Expectation Maximization (SBL-EM) algorithm is not practically feasible for high signal dimensions because estimating sparse signals and designing optimal hybrid precoders/combiners using SBL-EM still provide high computational complexity for higher signal dimensions. To overcome the issues of high computational complexity along with making it suitable for larger data sets, in this paper, we propose Learned-Sparse Bayesian Learning with Generalized Approximate Message Passing algorithm (L-SBL-GAMP) algorithm for designing optimal hybrid precoders/combiners suitable for mmWave Massive MIMO systems.

Cross-sectional study of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus in humans and dromedary camels in Diyala, Iraq.

Background: Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) is a zoonotic viral disease transmitted from dromedaries to humans. To date, more than 1500 cases of MERS have been reported and 80% of all cases have occurred in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This cross-sectional study was carried out to figure out the rate of infection among humans and dromedary camels and to explore the risk factors.

Clinical and hematological characteristics of 300 COVID-19 patients in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq.

Background: COVID-19 primarily presents as a respiratory tract infection, but studies indicate that it could be considered a systemic disease that can spread to affect multiple organ systems, including respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, hematopoietic, neurological, and immune systems.

Objective: To describe and analyze the clinical and hematological characteristics of 300 hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Erbil, Kurdistan.

Methods: This retrospective study included 300 patients of any age admitted to hospital due to confirmed COVID-19 between September 2020 and February 2021.

Mechanical and Microstructural Characterization of Friction Stir Welded SiC and BC Reinforced Aluminium Alloy AA6061 Metal Matrix Composites.

This study focuses on the properties and process parameters dictating behavioural aspects of friction stir welded Aluminium Alloy AA6061 metal matrix composites reinforced with varying percentages of SiC and BC. The joint properties in terms of mechanical strength, microstructural integrity and quality were examined. The weld reveals grain refinement and uniform distribution of reinforced particles in the joint region leading to improved strength compared to other joints of varying base material compositions.

Anticipatory grief is the process associated with grieving the loss of loved ones in advance of their inevitable death. Because anticipatory grief has been associated with a variety of outcomes, risk factors for this condition deserve closer consideration. Fifty-seven family members of terminally ill, hospice-eligible veterans receiving palliative care services completed measures assessing psychosocial factors and conditions.

The effect of alterations in virulence and transformation by long-term in vitro culture of Leishmania mexicana promastigotes on infectivity and immune responses was investigated. Fresh parasite cultures harvested from Balb/c mice were passaged 20 times in vitro. Infectivity was decreased and was completely avirulent after 20 passages.

The present study was performed to assess the immune response in women with human papilloma virus (HPV) DNA⁺ and DNA⁻ cervical lesions. Eighty women with cervical lesions (age range = 25-70 years) and 20 healthy individuals (control group) were enrolled in the study. Lesions were cytologically classified into four groups: ASC-US (20), CINI (30), CINII-III (16), and cervical carcinoma (14) prior to HPV DNA detection.

Sheehan's syndrome, first described in 1937, is characterised by postpartum haemorrhage, pituitary necrosis, lactational failure and hypopitutarism. Presentation is variable and late presentations are not unusual due to partial ischaemic injury of the pituitary and gradual loss of endocrine function. A history of postpartum haemorrhage is usual but in some cases it is not elicited.

The expression pattern of two metallothionein (MT) genes in response to temperature shock and exposure to Cd(2+) was investigated in the brain of common carp ( Cyprinus carpio ), in whole-animal experiments. The changes in the levels of MT-1 and MT-2 mRNA in the olfactory lobe, midbrain and cerebellum were followed by semiquantitative RT-PCR. The inducibility of the two MT genes was brain region and stressor-specific.

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare but life threatening skin disease that is most commonly drug induced. The exact pathogenesis of TEN is still unknown and many drugs, including prednisolone, cyclosporin and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), have been used in an attempt to halt the disease process. The use of IVIG in particular is controversial.

Identification and induction of hsp70 gene by heat shock and cadmium exposure in carp.

A member of the multi-gene family, encoding 70 kD stress proteins, was identified from the common carp (Cyprimus carpio). Homologies, observed at both nucleic acid and amino acid levels, and also the intronless structure of this gene, strongly suggest that it corresponds to a heat-inducible hsp70 gene in carp. Gene-specific primers were selected and used in RT-PCR reactions to measure the basal hsp70 mRNA levels and to follow the inducer-specific expression of this gene in different tissues during in vivo studies.

Involvement of gap junctions in the manifestation and control of the duration of seizures in rats in vivo.

Purpose: The possible role of gap junctions in the manifestation and control of the duration of seizures was tested on the 4-aminopyridine-induced epilepsy model in rats in vivo, by using electrophysiologic, pharmacologic, and molecular biologic techniques. METHODS; In electrophysiologic experiments, the functional states of the gap junctions were manipulated with a specific blocker (carbenoxolone) or opener (trimethylamine) at the already active focus of adult, anesthetized rats, 60 min after the induction of the first seizure, which was repeated spontaneously thereafter. Semiquantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) amplification was used to measure the levels of connexin (Cx) 32, 43, and 36 messenger RNAs (mRNAs) prepared from the areas of the already active primary and mirror foci.

Tissue- and stressor-specific differential expression of two hsc70 genes in carp.

Two genes expressing 70 kDa heat shock proteins were identified in Cyprinus carpio. The sequence similarities and the intron-interrupted structure of the coding regions indicate that carp Hsc70-1 and Hsc70-2 belong to the Hsp70 cognate subfamily. The expressions of the two hsc70 genes were followed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR.
