The use of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is developing rapidly in clinical routines. Because of the high complexity and uniqueness of IMRT treatment plans, patient-specific pretreatment quality assurance is generally considered a necessary prerequisite for patient treatment. In this work, we proposed a modified methodology of electronic portal imaging device (EPID)-based dose validation for pretreatment verification of IMRT fields by applying artificial neural networks (ANNs).

Background: One major challenge in brachytherapy is to verify the accuracy of dose distributions calculated by a treatment planning system.
Materials And Methods: A new phantom was designed and fabricated using 90 slabs of 18 cm × 16 cm × 0.
Purpose: Insulin like growth factor receptor 1 (IGF-1R) is well-documented to play a key role in radiation response and tumor radiosensitivity, thus offering an attractive clinic drug target to enhance tumor sensitivity to anti-cancer radiotherapy.
Material And Methods: Human colon carcinoma SW480 cells were transfected with the specific small interference RNA (siRNA) expression vector (pkD-shRNA-IGF-1R-V2) designed to target IGF-1R mRNA. The expression of IGF-1R mRNA and its protein among the transfected and untransfected cells were detected by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and ELISA assay.
Background: Cytotoxic therapy can lead to prolonged azoospermia or even sterility. In the present study, we investigated the morphological changes of mouse testes after gamma-Radiation.
Methods: After anaesthetizing of NMRI mice, testes and their surrounding tissues were irradiated using a cobalt therapy machine.
