Goals: To investigate the outcomes of hospitalized patients with gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) in the setting of aortic stenosis (AS).

Article Synopsis
  • - Recent research indicates that patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) face an increased risk of diabetes, but how IBD affects outcomes in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) patients was previously unclear.
  • - An analysis of data from the National Inpatient Sample Database revealed no significant differences in mortality or major complications between patients with DKA alone and those with both DKA and IBD.
  • - However, the presence of IBD resulted in longer hospital stays and higher healthcare costs for DKA patients, indicating that while it doesn't worsen clinical outcomes, it does lead to increased resource use.

Objectives Numerous previous studies investigated the impact of medical training settings on outcomes of hospitalized patients. However, the impact of teaching hospital status on outcomes of percutaneous paracentesis, to the best of our knowledge, has never been studied before. Methods Hospitalized patients who underwent percutaneous paracentesis were identified from the National Inpatient Sample database from 2016 to 2019 across the United States (US) teaching and non-teaching hospitals.
