This report describes a case of bilateral, simultaneous central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) in a young woman on oral contraceptive pills (OCP). A 21-year-old woman with a negative past medical history presented with sudden onset of bilateral decreased vision shortly after starting OCP. Comprehensive ocular examination revealed bilateral central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), confirmed on retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) and intravenous fluorescein angiography.

Article Synopsis
  • * Fifty PSP patients and 67 healthy controls underwent MRI and tau PET scans to analyze the signals in specific brain regions, revealing increased flortaucipir and susceptibility in PSP patients compared to controls.
  • * Results indicated a positive correlation between flortaucipir uptake and susceptibility in several brain areas, with mediation analysis showing that susceptibility significantly influences flortaucipir uptake, especially in the cerebellar dentate.

Background: The impacts of cannabis legalization on driving under the influence of cannabis and driving under the influence of alcohol among adults and adolescents were examined in Ontario, Canada.

Methods: Data were sourced from adult (N=38,479) and adolescent (N=23,216) populations-based surveys (2001-2019). The associations between cannabis legalization and driving within an hour of using cannabis and driving within an hour of drinking two or more drinks of alcohol were quantified using logistic regression, with testing of multiplicative interactions between cannabis legalization and age and sex.

A very simple mesotrione-sensing medium with enhanced sensitivity detection limits has been proposed. A renovated hydrothermal method was adopted for synthesizing fluorescent carbon dots from ethylenediamine and glucose using a Teflon-lined simple autoclave in a GC oven. The resultant carbon dots were characterized via TEM, FTIR, UV-vis, particle size distribution, and EDX and evaluated in a fluorimeter as the sensing medium for mesotrione detection.

Background: The incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is dramatically increasing worldwide, and it is expected to affect 700 million cases by 2045. Diabetes influences health care economics, human quality of life, morbidity, and mortality, which were primarily seen extensively in developing countries. Uncontrolled DM, which results in consistent hyperglycemia, may lead to severe life-threatening complications such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular complications.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Snake bites are a critical health issue in many parts of the world particularly in Asian countries lacking efficient health facilities in rural areas. Cobra is the most common snake type in Asia and is responsible for a large number of mortalities particularly in rural areas. Plants are usually considered the most effective and easy-to-approach treatment for snake bites in rural areas of various countries.

Globally recognized as emergent contaminants, microplastics (MPs) are prevalent in aquaculture habitats and subject to intense management. Aquaculture systems are at risk of microplastic contamination due to various channels, which worsens the worldwide microplastic pollution problem. Organic contaminants in the environment can be absorbed by and interact with microplastic, increasing their toxicity and making treatment more challenging.

In the contemporary landscape of healthcare, the early and accurate prediction of diabetes has garnered paramount importance, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic where individuals with diabetes exhibit increased vulnerability. This research embarked on a mission to enhance diabetes prediction by employing state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. Initial evaluations highlighted the Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier as a promising candidate with an accuracy of 76.

The pursuit of innovative combinations for the development of novel antimicrobial and antiviral medications has garnered worldwide interest among scientists in recent times. Monosaccharides and their glycosides, such as methyl α-d-mannopyranoside derivatives, play a significant role in the potential treatment of viral respiratory pathologies. This study was undertaken to investigate and assess the synthesis and spectral characterization of methyl α-d-mannopyranoside derivatives -, incorporating various aliphatic and aromatic groups.

: Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is mostly linked to inflammation and has been validated as a molecular target for treating inflammatory diseases. The present study aimed to identify novel compounds that could inhibit COX-2, which is associated with various diseases including inflammation, and in such a scenario, plant-derived biomolecules have been considered as attractive candidates. : In the present study, physiochemical properties and toxicity of natural compounds/drugs were determined by SWISSADME and ProTox-II.

Introduction: Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is an atypical parkinsonism caused by the intracerebral aggregation of the microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) which is encoded by MAPT gene. Although PSP is a sporadic disease, MAPT mutations have been reported in rare cases.

Methods: Among 190 patients with PSP who were recruited by the Neurodegenerative Research Group at Mayo Clinic during 2009-2023, we identified two patients who fulfilled diagnostic criteria for PSP-Richardson's syndrome (PSP-RS) and harbor novel MAPT mutations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected human behavior, creating a need for individuals to be more cautious about health and safety protocols. People are becoming more aware of their surroundings and the importance of minimizing the risk of exposure to potential sources of infection. This shift in mindset is particularly important in indoor environments, especially hospitals, where there is a greater risk of virus transmission.

Background And Aims: This study analyzed the optimal biliary stenting strategy for palliation in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA).

Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients with CCA who underwent biliary drainage from 1997 to 2023. A per-patient analysis of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) rates, the median number of ERCPs, and overall survival (OS) and a per-procedure analysis of clinical success (CS), stent-specific adverse events (AEs), and mean time to repeat ERCP by stent type and laterality (unilateral and bilateral) are presented.

Background: Ontario has one of the highest rates of substance-related harms in Canada. Residential treatment programs in the province provide a variety of in-house treatment services to support the needs of individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). However, these programs are not standardized, often varying in the type, quality, and availability of services offered, including evidence-based interventions such as Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT).

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common form of acute leukemia in adults. Rapidly proliferating leukemic cells cause symptoms and increase the risk of infection. While individuals may initially benefit from supportive measures, disease-directed therapy may ultimately be required for symptom management, even at the end of life, although this may also inadvertently increase symptom burden.

COVID-19 is an epidemic disease that results in death and significantly affects the older adult and those afflicted with chronic medical conditions. Diabetes medication and high blood glucose levels are significant predictors of COVID-19-related death or disease severity. Diabetic individuals, particularly those with preexisting comorbidities or geriatric patients, are at a higher risk of COVID-19 infection, including hospitalization, ICU admission, and death, than those without Diabetes.
