Selenium (Se) is a trace element that is essential for health. Organic Se created by Se-enriched microorganisms has the characteristics of low toxicity, high bioavailability, and regulation of physiological functions. Here, the regulatory effect of Se-enriched Aspergillus oryzae A02 on the reproductive function of male mice and its potential molecular mechanism was studied.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate how different dietary protein sources (soya meal, corn gluten, and wheat gluten) impact the reproductive performance of male lambs over a period of 56 days.
  • The findings indicated that the control group (fed soybean meal) had higher levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and lower levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha compared to the other groups.
  • The results suggested that the type of protein in the diet significantly influences testicular tissue metabolism and spermatological parameters, such as diameter, volume, and weight of the testes.

This study investigated the antioxidant effect of quercetin-treated semen on frozen-thawed spermatozoa quality and fertility in crossbred Kamori goats. In total, 32 ejaculates from four fertile bucks were diluted in Tris-based egg yolk extender with varying levels of quercetin (0, 1, 5, 10, and 15 μM). Qualified semen samples were pooled and frozen in French straws.

Humans and wildlife, including domesticated animals, are exposed to a myriad of environmental contaminants that are derived from various human activities, including agricultural, household, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and industrial products. Excessive exposure to pesticides, heavy metals, and phthalates consequently causes the overproduction of reactive oxygen species. The equilibrium between reactive oxygen species and the antioxidant system is preserved to maintain cellular redox homeostasis.

The potential health-promoting effects of probiotics against intoxication by pesticides is a topic of increasing commercial interest with limited scientific evidence. In this study, we aimed to investigate the positive effects of probiotic on the male reproductive system under low dose neonicotinoid pesticide exposure conditions. We observed that acetamiprid and imidacloprid caused a degeneration and necrosis of the spermatocytes in the tubular wall, a severe edema of the intertubular region and a hyperemia.

Cisplatin (CP) treatment causes the damage in male reproductive system. Carvacrol (CARV) is an antioxidant that is naturally found in some plants. We aimed to investigate the effect of CARV on CP-induced reproductive toxicity in male rats.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of methionine and lipoic acid on ram sperm parameters during liquid storage (5 °C). Ejaculates collected from five Merino rams were pooled at 37 °C. Each pooled ejaculate was divided into five equal aliquots and diluted (37 °C) with five extenders, one of which was without additives, two of which contained methionine at two different doses, and the other two of which contained lipoic acid at two different doses.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of methionine and dithioerythritol, added to the Tris extender, on ram sperm motility and LPO (lipid peroxidation) and antioxidant capacities during liquid storage up to 72 h at 5°C. Ejaculates collected from five Merino rams, were evaluated and pooled at 37°C. This study included two experiments.
