Assessing the Burden of Osteoarthritis in Africa and the Middle East: A Rapid Evidence Assessment.

Introduction/objectives: This rapid evidence assessment (REA) was conducted to assess the burden of weight-bearing joint osteoarthritis in the developing countries of Africa and the Middle East.

Methods: Our REA methodology used a standardized search strategy to identify observational studies, published between January 1, 2010, and April 23, 2020, reporting on outcomes pertaining to the epidemiology and humanistic or economic burden of weight-bearing osteoarthritis. Relevant data from the included studies were used for qualitative analysis.

Position of the Patella among Emirati Adult Knees. Is Insall-Salvati Ratio Applicable to Middle-Easterners?

Background: Abnormal patellar height is associated with anterior knee pain and several conditions that affect the patellofemoral joint. The aim of this study was to 1) report the incidence of patella alta and patella baja and 2) investigate whether the normal limits of the Insall-Salvati ratio is applicable in adult Middle-Easterners.

Methods: A radiographic review of the lateral radiographs of 736 Middle-Eastern knees were performed.

Prospective randomized trial comparing alumina ceramic-on-ceramic with ceramic-on-conventional polyethylene bearings in total hip arthroplasty.

This prospective randomized study aims to compare the outcome between an alumina ceramic-on-ceramic (CC) articulation with a ceramic on ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene articulation (CP). Fifty-six hips in 55 patients with mean age 42.2 (range, 19-56) each received uncemented components, a 28-mm alumina head with randomization of acetabular liner.
