Previously, we reported brothers in a family affected by a congenital prune belly-like syndrome with mydriasis due to homozygous CHRM3 frameshift variants. In this study, we describe two sisters with bladders that failed to empty completely and pupils that failed to constrict fully in response to light, who are homozygous for the missense CHRM3 variant c.

Histological changes in the fracture callus following the administration of water extract of piper sarmentosum (daun kadok) in estrogen-deficient rats.

Background: The fracture healing is impaired in osteoporosis. Piper sarmentosum is a plant, which contains potent antioxidant, naringenin that may enhance fracture healing. The present histological study aimed to determine the effects of water extract of Piper sarmentosum on the late phase of fracture healing in estrogen-deficient rats.

Maternity services and the role of the traditional birth attendant, bidan kampung, in rural Malaysia.

This study was undertaken to explore the roles played by bidan kampungs and understand their contribution to rural Malay women during pregnancy and childbirth hundred sixteen pregnant women, 13 Western midwives, and 12 bidan kampungs were recruited using convenience and snowball sampling. Data were collected from focus groups, in-depth interviews, field notes, and observations. The findings indicated that although the women were happy to have Western maternity care, they valued the social and spiritual support received from bidan kampungs during pregnancy and postnatal care.
